That’s a good use of a parking lot.

A short but important thread about why we're seeing so much pushback on speed cameras in Ontario, that's not seen in many other places.

A comparative angle leads to a different conclusion: manufactured conflict rather than poor execution.

The question to begin with is:

Why do other countries use ASE much more broadly, e.g. hidden mobile cameras, 24/7, to enforce 30km/h speed limits in residential areas - without so much backlash?

Municipalities took a good idea, completely gummed up its execution, and now promise to do better if only given another chance. And we wonder why faith in institutions is eroding... www.thestar.com/news/gta/20-...

There’s something so beautiful about a house with a front yard overrun with weeds and plants of all kinds… it feels alive

Let’s look at some numbers. 85th percentile speeds at multiple school zones, and the speed limits in the Region of Waterloo before/after speed camera enforcement (on page 4). www.regionofwaterloo.ca/en/living-he...
The 85th percentile is 20+ speed limit in most cases. SCs bring them down.

I’m grateful to mayor McCabe for standing up to Ford.

"If Ford goes through with his ban, the city should keep some cameras rolling (but not issue tickets) to see if the number of speeding cars zooms back up. I suspect those numbers would prove that, despite the premier’s enthusiasm, road safety is not a problem that can be solved with flashing lights"

YT channels be advertising recipes to make at home cuz they’re healthy, me be making them with ingredients from the bulk store to save on extra plastic packaging.

I’m so sick and tired of his populist policies.

One of the best decisions I’ve made recently is shopping for gifts for family months in advance of my trip back home to India.. this way gifts are more thoughtful and not last minute panic buys 😬

Like the chopping board I bought at KW woodworking and craft centre’s open house
End grain choppinh board made from different types of wood

To my Kitchener and Waterloo friends, please check out Pasha BBQ in DTK, they have a diverse and flexible menu, and the items I’ve tried there have been delish. Every time I’ve visited there, I feel like the owner understands exactly what I want and modifies the menu a bit to make it 🙃

Perhaps forcing e-scooters to be returned at a docking station, similar to how it works for bikes, as an example: support.bixi.com/hc/en-ca/sec....

Who else is disappointed that promising candidates like Sam Nabi (who had an excellent resume for this job honestly, check out his and some of the others’ speeches!) didn’t even make it to the second round of voting? well, at least there will be an election for the same position in Oct next year 🤷‍♀️

We could start by installing more signs on trails requiring cyclists and scooters to slow down and ring their bells when overtaking pedestrians. I’ve only noticed one sign on the Spur line trail and that has too much text for a sign and is easy to miss.

Why do we need 2 years to make a business case for the LRT? Even if we’re slowed down because we need to get public input, it should probably be in the order of a few months and not a few years?

A friend shared this quote: “Living within walking distance of your friends completely transforms your quality of life”, and it’s true. Chance encounters have led to walks where we’ve had interesting conversations.

A reminder that walkability can change people’s lives in significant ways.

Was excited to see notices for zoning amendments to build 2 (not one, but two!) 6 storey developments on Park St (notices were from ~ May this year) replacing single family homes.

My own home is a single family one very close to an ION station, hoping we get approached by a developer :)
A notice for zoning amendment on Park St close to the ION light rail line, to build a 6 storey development with 78 residences, 72 car parking spots and 72 bike parking spots. A similar zoning amendment application for a 6 storey development on Park St with 60 residences, 31 car parking spots and 41 bicycle parking spots.

I knew street car bunching was an issue in Toronto, but seven (7) trains back-to-back on Richmond St. is crazy! Might as well just replace the lane with a super long moving walkway like in airports. 🥲

I biked to Wilson Ave today to see the lanes with my own eyes. It leads to a community centre which is nice

The number of times I have to hear people complain about driving to and from Toronto every week… it’s not just transit advocates who want this, it’s literally everyone
