Can AI ever truly understand suspicion?
As AI tools increasingly shape how police forces operate—particularly in Stop & Search—the stakes are high. Whose judgement are we trusting? Who is accountable when algorithms misjudge? And how do we challenge AI-generated suspicion in court?

Importance of ‘Responsibility’. Attention must be paid to the chaining of systems and cumulative effects of AI systems feeding each other. We are reviewing, questioning & evaluating the use & applications of probabilistic AI across different stages of law enforcement & the criminal justice system.

Why ‘Probabilistic’? Probabilistic systems supported by AI, such as facial recognition, predictive tools or LLMs are being introduced into law enforcement. Uncertain or probable nature of outputs can be obscured or misinterpreted, and the underlying data is sensitive and of varying quality.
