I feel that Tang Dynasty poetry has adequately prepared me for the Century of American Humiliation. Never say a humanistic education isn't useful!

Translating rhapsodies 賦 is terrifying. Fenellosa, Pound etc created a way of accommodating poetic 詩 aesthetics. But there’s no way to do the over-the-top fu aesthetics without sounding bonkers.

Activism does not always need to create conflict to be effective. Resistance can work by flowing in unexpected directions.

This new book leverages the poetry of Daoist text to propose new kinds of 21st century solutions. Available now for pre-order.

Bringing a gun to a protest was Pretti’s legal right. It did not mean he was a terrorist. It did not give ICE the right to execute him.

That does not mean it was a great idea. Carrying a gun increases the danger to yourself and everyone around you.

The amount of money that it would take to operate a universal all-OA non-profit scholarly publication platform is a fraction of what academic libraries spend on access to the for-profit databases. So, as a matter of budgeting, how do we get from here to there?

11/ If we want to avoid being perpetually surprised, we need to change how we report, teach, and think about China. That means breaking out of political frames, investing in expertise, and squarely confronting our own biases.

This one goes to 11.

Seeing all kinds of false Daoist quotes on the timeline today. However, as Lao Tzu said, “Don’t let others’ Google failures bum you out.” Wise advice.
