I understand that it's discouraging that these battles come up again and again and that we never get to permanently just say "NO".

But if you want a silver lining, think about how frustrated that makes you feel. They're not the only ones who can do that. We can also refuse to stop asking.

A small victory! Chat Control has been tabled for now, but it can [and likely will] be brought up for vote again in December

In the meantime, EU citizens will need to continue pressuring their respective govts to oppose chat control

However, do so knowing that pressure WORKS.

Denmark has tabled next week's vote on Chat Control.

Yet, per Peter Hummelgaard:

"The Danish Presidency will, however, continue to work with the member states to find a solution, and therefore negotiations on the technical details of the proposal continue. It is urgent to find common ground."

Age verification must be destroyed at all costs. A thread:

This Discord leak has radicalized me, over 2 MILLION government-issued IDS out in the open, with full names, addresses, Credit card numbers, Faces, EVERYTHING.

I don't think we truly grasp the dangers these mandates have.

Really hammer your reps about how catastrophic this is and how bad these laws are for peoples online safety

BREAKING: A catastrophic breach has impacted Discord user data including selfies and identity documents uploaded as part of the app’s verification process, email addresses, phone numbers, approximately where the user lives, and much more.

The Discord Hack is Every Users’ Worst Nightmare
A hack impacting Discord’s age verification process shows in stark terms the risk of tech companies collecting users’ ID documents. Now the hackers are posting peoples’ IDs and other sensitive informa...

IF you're in the EU, UK, AU, or anywhere with online petitions, create one. They may not listen. But I believe they are a great indicator that these are issues people are willing to VOTE FOR.

This isn't a left or right issue. This AFFECTS ALL OF US. People on the right have also been vocal against this. We must settle our grievances, both legitimate and not, to save lives from poorly written legislation and opportunistic tech companies.

Do not give in to doom and gloom. Do not give up, THEY WANT YOU TO GIVE UP.

I propose that we start our own child safety moral panic, do everything we can to make a huge stink and noise to educate and to make these as impossible to defend as possible. ON BOTH SIDES. 6/

I could go on, but I think you get the idea. Some of us know this would happen. But I don't think we truly grasp the catastrophic implications. Nor do the people advocating and developing this "digital snake oil".

Whatever you do, reading this 5/

Yes, these companies are storing this information. Yes, they can be broken into. Yes, they have a lot of very valuable information.

All it takes is confirmed numbers of a credit card, and you basically have free money. 4/

Discord isn't gonna be the last, but I think it's the first droplet of A dangerous hurricane of not just identity theft, but stalking and blackmail, and child exploitation.

The thing is, I think this showed many dangerous cyber criminals that 3/

This is no longer about pornography, privacy, or free speech. Survallince.

Thinking of starting an E-petition to ban age verification and to safeguard the right to anonymity and privacy online.

Create NSFW art

Porn is not evil, sex is not abhorrent, pleasure is not a crime

Even if you don't agree with all kinks doesn't mean they should be allowed to censor art

This is why we have tags and the blick button, not megacorps deciding what we can and cannot like

Always resist oppression

For real. Especially if you live in a red State, they're always harping on and on about how X and Y need to be banned because of protecting people's identities and protecting people's data, well now is the time to use their words against them.

Discord customer service data breach leaks user info and scanned photo IDs

This is why this shit needs to be BANNED. its too dangerous to let these private companies handle very sensitive and personal information.

Tech companies have a terrible track record of keeping the bare minimum secure. Its too dangerous

On the bright side. At least this shit is accelerating.

cannot emphasize enough that thinking that the pro-censorship side has already won is how the pro-censorship side wins

i want to stress: i firmly believe that we, just us normal people, can push back against this global wave of censorship.

we CAN do this.

there may be temporary setbacks, lost battles, but i do firmly believe that with sustained action, we can make our futures better for art and human expression.
