"While developing Mario Sunshine we'd frequently find issues like Mario falling through solid ground or invisible walls. I wanted to correct them but whenever Miyamoto-san saw them he'd say 'haha trolled' and imitate a clown honk. I didn't get it but we shipped the game like that" ~Yoshiyaki Koizumi

i thought it was already established most people cannot view games as art, or at least art first, unless the elements in question that are being analyzed are akin to what's already present in other mediums (visuals, music, story). and even then, gameplay still isn't properly treated as art
not enough people treat video games as unavoidably art
sure there are really smart people talking about the really artsy games, and huge fans hanging on to every piece of lore in their favorite series, but not enough people apply literary analysis and historical context to like..

i dont think im ever understanding the appeal of shatterhand but im never forgetting the one guy i saw gassing that game up saying how it was a "REAL" nes action game without any of the "ARTIFICIAL DIFFICULTY" like ninja gaiden or mega man's "BAD JUMP". felt so validated in that moment for hating it

starforce 2 is so good man. i missed playing a mega man rpg i actually felt this much of a connection with since battle network 3. vibes are immaculate and so is the gameplay. there’s a lot i can yap about when it comes to why i care about this heavily but i’ll save it for later

reminded of how Data East's Dragon Gun has boss backgrounds that are currently unemulated because... it's literal MPEG video being decoded by hardware on-board.

getting called a “gatekeeper” for thinking people really shouldn’t force themselves to consume things they don’t even have an interest in playing but do so anyway just for the sake of making a number go up

coming back to this game years later has me feeling so fucking powerful. i never really got bothered by its encounter rate too much but now it's extra funny. this game is going against a famicom rpg lover. it's no match for me
