Since the inception of Arcane, Evening has been a champion for black women. Whether it was within the creative spaces of Riot, or on Twitter, they have never hesitated to speak up for the Medardas and black women alike. Evening, you have placed so much care into Mel and Ambessa, so clearly evidenced by their thoughtful creation. You have gone above and beyond to capture the unique features, hair textures that black women bear, and your care resulted in characters who are distinct and authentic. As a project proudly involving black women in its creation and in participation, seeing Mel and Ambessa so intricately rendered on screen was deeply moving and impactful for us. It's not often we see what we saw in Arcane: black women-dark skinned black women- represented within media, as the beautiful, intelligent, and empathetic individuals we are. Watching the characters you helped to create was a very special, empowering experience-one we hold dear to this day, and it was your characters that played an integral part in allowing us to connect with Arcane on a much deeper level. Thank you for helping create characters that so many black women can see themselves in. Thank you for seeing us and representing us with a care that few others have. Have a wonderful birthday!
