Meet Dora Richter.

Trans people were one of communities persecuted by the Nazis, and many of the famous images of book burning were taken at the Institute for Sexual Research where Dora was a patient.

She was the first person known to undergo complete male to female gender affirming surgery.

Today we pay tribute to Dr James Barry, an outstanding doctor who undertook the first c-section where both mother & baby survived.

Born female in Ireland, Barry lived both public & private life as a man.

It was only after death that his birth gender was discovered.

Like so much LGBTQIA+ history, trans history has been hidden, but it is there.

We can find lots of examples of people who were trans or gender non conforming, throughout history - for example the Gallus of Catterick.
