From our recent Annual General Meeting:
Covering the windows with ads is prioritising advertisers over passengers. Elsewhere they have ads but leave the windows clear, improving visibility and security.

Melbourne and Sydney have similar populations - but their trains are a lot more frequent than ours, especially on weekends.
Frequent services make it so much easier to use public transport - especially when heading to events or appointments, or interchanging from other lines.

We all like freebies, but with little or no extra capacity expected to be added to V/Line trains over summer, services are likely to be packed.
V/Line travel is free on weekends this summer in Victoria but will you find a seat?
Victorians will benefit from free public transport on weekends this summer, but not all travellers are excited for the freebie.

At this rate, Melbourne won’t have a fully accessible tram network until the year 2160.

Read our statement calling for more State Government action on tram accessibility. www.ptua.org.au/2025...

The Auditor General has published their update on tram service accessibility... the progress by the State Government in the past five years has been minimal.

We agree with Albo - public transport is the best way to move people around big cities. We hope to see more State and Federal investment to make public transport faster, more frequent, more accessible, and easier to use. #auspol

Great to hear the Metro tunnel will open on 30th November!

We'll keep pushing for more train services to make the most of the investment in this infrastructure, and give #Melbourne the metro service it needs. Want to help? Join us as a free supporter or a paid member.

A long wait, then a train so packed you can't get a seat? This is a regular occurrence on Melbourne's rail network every weekend (V/Line too!), despite plenty of spare track capacity and many trains sitting idle.
More services needed.
November 15, 2025 at 10:38 PM
With more people using V/Line, extending short platforms is a no-brainer. In most locations it would be a cheap easy fix to help ensure more 6 carriage trains can run safely.
What do you do when your train is too long for the platform?
There is a problem with regional Victoria's top-of-the-line, six-carriage trains — they do not fit at more than a third of the state's train stations.

Coming to the @ptua.org.au Annual General Meeting? We had a great guest lined up who unfortunately couldn't make it - so it's me instead, talking about good and bad PT from my trip, and what we can learn from it. Slides including this from Lyon!
See you Wednesday night!

🎂🚉 Happy 140th birthday to Pascoe Vale station, opened 10th Nov 1885

A birthday present is coming soon - State Government has funded more trains on weekends and evenings, cutting waiting times from 30-40 minutes to 20 and reducing crowding. A welcome upgrade! More please!👍

When connecting between infrequent services, it’s sheer luck whether it’s a short wait or a long one. That’s one reason better service frequency is so important to cut waiting times and make public transport more competitive with driving.
November 8, 2025 at 8:50 PM
#Melbourne trams spend a huge amount of their time just waiting for traffic lights.
Traffic light priority would mean faster trips, more competitive travel times, and even enable more frequent tram services with the current fleet.

Heyington is the only railway station in Victoria with no step-free access, making the station difficult or impossible to use for people with mobility issues, prams, and even luggage. Click through and sign the petition here to get it upgraded: www.parliament.vic.g...

Better buses make it easier to get around. Good to see a bus network review for Ballarat pushing ahead.

Sorry, it's 8:15pm, and you're too late to catch the last bus home from the station.😬
October 30, 2025 at 9:15 AM
Good interchanges help make getting around by public transport easier for more people. Having the buses and trams stop right outside the station is the first step. Frequent services to minimise waiting also make a big difference.

Tram route 1. Every 10-12 minutes daytime, every day. At least every 20 minutes evenings. Runs until midnight. No wonder it's popular.👍
Whether it's train, tram or bus, every suburb and town should have public transport like this.. (but accessible!)
October 24, 2025 at 8:30 AM
50 years ago, #Melbourne trains mostly ran every 20 minutes in the evening.
Our population has almost doubled since then... but in 2025 they run FEWER evening services, mostly every 30 minutes.
Time for State Government to fund #MoreServicesNow
October 22, 2025 at 10:00 AM
Good to see more services on tram routes 86 & 96, including more Saturday evening services to cut waiting times and crowding.
We hope to see Sunday night 30 min waits also fixed, and on-road priority to speed up trams, but this is a good start.

Good, clear, accurate signage, wayfinding and real-time information around the public transport system is vital to help people get to the right place!

Works in Elizabeth Street, shutting down trams, would have been a good opportunity to upgrade the terminus. It's in desperate need of a wider, accessible stop. Surely its turn must come soon?
October 15, 2025 at 4:29 AM
On 12th October 1995, 30 years ago today, tram route 86 was extended to Bundoora RMIT.
Extending further to connect with trains at South Morang station would improve connections to RMIT and La Trobe Uni, and make it easier to get around the northern suburbs.
