Hi there. Patreon's research team did send a survey recently asking creators to share their thoughts on various questions pertaining to artificial intelligence and we're happy to clarify some more information about the survey and the context in which it was sent.

To be clear: the survey’s purpose is to understand how creators feel about and approach AI today— not to announce or signal new tools on Patreon. Mentions of AI tools or features does not mean Patreon is currently building or planning to build them.

As part of our Creator Policy Engagement Program, we’ve surveyed creators on their opinions on AI since early 2023 (more information, here: https://news.patreon.com/articles/2023-year-end-update-from-the-policy-team), and this survey continues that work to make sure we still understand the full range of creator views as the technology evolves.

We also want to reassure you that Patreon does not allow creator works to be scraped for AI training. Informed by creator feedback, we began blocking this activity in late 2023 — starting with OpenAI & other major AI companies. This means Patreon pages are protected from being used to train models that mimic creators’ styles or likenesses without consent. Safeguarding creator ownership remains a top priority for us.
