I gotta say, ChatGPT and other LLMs are infinitely better at debugging esoteric computer problems than searching the web, forums, reddit, SO, etc. Case in point: Time Machine was erroring on a particular Dropbox file stored locally, and CGPT helped solve it. Plus it was actually kinda nice!

This announcement comes after several weeks of thoughtful discussion among the SC members. I’d also like to acknowledge and thank my fellow council members, @pumpichank.bsky.social, @gpshead.bsky.social, @pablogsal.com and @emilyemorehouse.bsky.social for their hard work throughout this process.

While it took much deliberation, it’s decisions like this, and the process leading to it, that make serving on the SC so rewarding. Once again I’m honored to serve with these five fine folks.

Uncanny valley x2. I've talked to several plumbers recently whose voicemail goes straight to an AI. They don't tell you they're an AI tho, so after a few Qs & As, I suspect "Dane" and "Madison" of being Not Human. Now I'm trying to trick them without outright accusing.

This transition to a Public Benefit Corporation is a huge milestone for us ✨.
I am so excited about the future and the impact we will continue to have on the open source ecosystem.
"Open source should be nurtured and elevated as a public good." - Travis Oliphant

That's why Quansight just became a Public Benefit Corporation, formalizing our commitment to sustainable OSS infrastructure that powers global innovation.

We're in this for the long haul. 🙌 bwnews.pr/3HdvSQ8

Use #Python at all? I would like to do a silly thing, which I hope will bring amusement to others as well as me (if it works out).

Many projects name proposals after PEPs rather than RFCs.

Where did PEPs come from? Here's @pumpichank.bsky.social on the origin!

I doubt Southwest Airlines is here, but I *used* to be a loyal customer. With the announced bag fees and previously announced assigned seat changes, as of today, I'm done. If you want to act like just another airline, that's how I'll treat you.

Okay, before I freak out and delete Firefox everywhere, what's the deal with the new Mozilla terms of service, giving them blanket rights to use that information? Sure seems pretty broad, or at least extremely careless language, for a privacy focused organization.

From a technical perspective, it’s probably our most ambitious project yet. We’re about 800 PRs deep!

Stunned by the news of Michael Foord's death. The world will be a little less interesting now... I always felt that with you as an ally things could not be truly lost. Farewell my friend.

Mini-PITA: on a macOS 15 laptop with a notch, app menubar icons just get lost under the notch if you have too many of them. You have to quit apps or move notifications to the Control Center. Doesn't this bug some Apple employee enough to Just Fix?! Scrollbar or popup with the full list would do.
