Yes, part of me wants to respond to that question with, "Well, thank God we live in such a perfect world that THAT is one of the most important issues for you to raise with me."
purpleelectric.bsky.social
That was one of the things that really impressed me about Zack there. Many people would have just accepted the interview was over and been upset they didn't get a chance to respond. Zack insisted on responding, and making his point very clearly.

I don't believe in the death penalty, but there are some people I don't feel that bothered when someone else chooses to exact it. I suspect his killer was already in for life and therefore there is effectively no punishment for it.

Indeed. There is no good faith reason for this to be so important to them, so it is clearly a pretended belief for bad faith reasons.

They are the worst, because they are building on and going further than what came before.

And it is made worse still by the fact that this is supposed to be the Labour party, so there is no pushback from His Majesty's Official Opposition.

Personally I think it is far more disqualifying if people still think trickle down economics is a thing, or that they can stop the boats, or that they can win the war on drugs, or any of many other absurd beliefs that seem to be necessary to be considered “credible” by Serious People.

This is one of those issues where… let’s suppose you passionately believe that you are what you are born.

What difference does it make to you that Zack happens to believe something different? Why would this be in the top 50 most important issues for you? I just. Don’t. Get it.

Because he is a pathetic creep who is disturbed by the fact that he lusts after her.

Bigots object to being called bigots. Cry me a river.

So where is this democratic socialist Labour that needs a rational right of centre party to debate with it?

The Shadow Justice Secretary has no business involving himself in an individual case at all. If I was the judge in that case, I would have had him charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice by trying to put political pressure on the court.

Zack-food Zia, after the way Polanski ate him for breakfast.

And of course Zack had a good specific reason for changing his name, whereas the mad Yaxman didn't.

The public is "once bitten" after the hatchet job on Corbyn, helped no end by Israel proving after the event the truth of what Corbyn was saying. The same tactic again is going to be nowhere near as effective this time round.

I think Zack's approach of "Hey, look at what they are saying about me, they clearly have no answer to the policy points we are making" is proving pretty damn effective.

In short, they would have had to develop a coherent policy on Brexit rather than an easy but meaningless slogan.
purpleelectric.bsky.social
“Make Brexit Work” implies that it is possible to get a good result from it if you handle it right. That is a lie. If they had said, “we can’t rejoin, but we will mitigate the impact”, that would have prompted the question “why can’t we rejoin” - or at least apply to do so.
purpleelectric.bsky.social
And Labour didn’t say this before the election, when it was already blatantly obvious, why, exactly?
purpleelectric.bsky.social
Hmm. Is the Guardian starting to find that there is a cost in being institutionally transphobic?
purpleelectric.bsky.social
Agreed. The habit over the past couple of decades of passing enabling legislation giving Ministers sweeping powers to do things by regulation has been one of the most dangerous developments in the way our country is governed.

As a union member, I could've voted, but I would have had to make a false declaration that I'm not a member of any organisation that opposes Labour. Unlike the Greens, there's no "reopen nominations" option to allow people to tell the party they don't want either of these ghastly creatures.

American Congresscritters have a long tradition of not just voting the way their leaders demand, so it is more difficult for the President or the Speaker to get legislation through without a lot of compromises along the way.

In America, the President has a lot of the powers that our PM has. Johnson is the leader of the largest party in the equivalent of the House of Commons, responsible for getting legislation through the House. He's also next in line after the VP to the Presidency.
