That seems to defy any notion of heroism - if you're just taking care of no. 1, then why the fuck should anyone look up to you as being something or someone better? The world where looking at a police officer "wrong" results in an immediate death sentence is not one of heroes but of villains. 3/4

What's infuriating about hero worship in US right now is that it hinges on simply wearing the uniform as opposed to what you do inside it. Because we've seen a dramatic push, particularly in police and military ciricles, where ANYTHING is justified to save self at the expnse of others. 2/4

My dad (RIP pop, miss you) was a Chicago police officer for over 30 years. We got into a LOT of arguments over time. One of the things was about what being a "hero" means, but we actually came to agreement on that one - that if you really want to be a "hero," that means putting others over self. 1/4
