I don't want to overdo my personal hobby horse, but this is an example of "sheriff policing mentality" over progressive urban police (both bad but in different ways).

Most US military personnel need no reminder of their constitutional duty. But they do need some reassurance that they have support from their chain of command to resist illegal orders. the rest of us should do everything we can to let them know that we will stand with them.
Congress, so far, has been useless in restraining Trump: The Democrats are too timid, and the Republicans are too compromised. Only by standing together can the senior military officials warn Trump away from leading America into a full-blown civil-military confrontation.
some military commanders are trying to figure out if they face legal exposure for acting as Trump’s personal hit squad. Their questions are likely more difficult to answer since Trump and Hegseth fired the top military lawyers who would have helped field such queries.

Only the military remains outside Trump’s grip. Despite the firing of several top officers—and Trump’s threat to fire more—the U.S. armed forces are still led by generals and admirals whose oath is to the Constitution, not the commander in chief. But for how long?

"I was told by a source close to Trump, there is a growing fear that someone in his own inner-circle may whisper the words “25th Amendment,” end the Trump presidency and usher in “The Age of Ultron” — I mean Vance. That, more than anything else, has Puff Donny scared."

the U.S. turn toward illiberalism would hardly have surprised Carl Schmitt, his version of history that is currently playing out in the US. And it is by his principles that the Trump administration is turning the country in an ever more authoritarian direction. www.foreignaffairs.com/united-state...

DHS has been taken over by MAGAs and dictated by ICE. Those people simple believe that whether constitutional or unconstitutional is determined by Obedience to or against them, it has nothing to do with the constitution.
DHS posted their response on X: “To be clear: We will NOT comply with Gavin Newsom’s unconstitutional mask ban." LAPD has kept quiet, following several L.A. TACO requests for comment.

That’s exactly what has happened. it opens the floodgates for the White House and federal agencies to do more than just label “groups” as domestic terrorist organizations. It allows them to add US citizens by the thousands to the terrorist watchlist itself for minor legal infractions or none at all.
Trump made it vastly easier for his agencies to add Americans to the terrorist watchlist — and to track them secretly, pervasively, and without due process. Trump’s recent executive order is one of the most alarming government documents I’ve ever read. www.treason.io/p/must-read-...

Is there hope? Of course, Americans haven’t always been as obedient and ready to succumb to autocratic power as many of them are now. The U.S. national anthem declares “the land of the free and the home of the brave”.
Analysts must be shocked that Goebbels operated at a slower pace and with more circumspection to implement his strategies. In a more contemporary context than early 1930s Germany, collapse of US democracy happened faster than China Xi to install himself as a ruler for life in China.
in just nine months since Trump returned, Project 2025 has been imposed on the US with a speed and efficiency that you would expect from China, not the U.S. The U.S. Constitution and its presumably strong safeguards are being resolutely pushed aside. www.theglobalist.com/are-american...
