Trump's "it would cost a lot of money and be very difficult to undo" argument in favor of the tariffs is kind of giving away the game, huh? The whole point of most of this administration is to do a lot of damage very fast before anything gets through the courts, to make it hard to impossible to fix.

To be clear: No, Trump is not going to send you a $2000 check. He is not going to send anyone a $2000 check. He is lying, because he wants to make a case for being allowed to levy tariffs at will. The tariff income would not pay for this. There would be no "left over" money. It's a lie.

There is a direct throughline from things this man fought tooth and nail for and many of the ills of the current era, including the imperial presidency we are now seeing. Dick Cheney was always of the opinion that Nixon should have fought for keeping the presidency powerful and unaccountable.
