![After 167 years, the [State of] Wu had the Zhuan Zhu affair. Zhuan Zhu was a man from Tang Village in Wu, and when Wuzi Xu (personal name Yuan) escaped Chu and went to Wu, he was [already] aware of Zhuan Zhu's abilities. After being granted an audience with Wu King Liao, Wuzi Xu [attempted to] persuade him of the profit of attacking Chu. Wu Prince Guang retorted, "This Wu Yuan's father and brother both died in Chu, and [now] Yuan speaks of attacking Chu. Secretly, he wishes to take revenge for his own sake, [so he] couldn't possibly [carry out this plan] for Wu's sake." With that, the Wu king refrained [from attacking Chu]. Knowing that Prince Guang wished to kill Wu King Liao, Wuzi Xu said [to himself], "That general Guang has "domestic" ambitions; he cannot yet be persuaded about foreign affairs." At which point Wuzi Xu offered the services of Zhuan Zhu to Prince Guang. Prince Guang's father was Wu King Zhu Fan. Zhu Fan had three younger brothers, [from oldest to youngest] named Yu Zhai, Yi Mo and Ji Zizha. Zhu Fan knew Jizi Zha to be worthy and so he wouldn't appoint [his son Guang as] Crown Prince. Wishing in the end to present the state to Jizi Zha, Zhu Fan passed [rulership] to his three brothers in order [of seniority]. When Zhu Fan died, [rulership] passed to Yu Zhai. When Yu Zhai died, [rulership] passed to Yi Mo. When Yi Mo died, it was time to pass [rulership] to Ji Zizha. Unwilling, Jizi Zha fled instead of taking the throne. The Wu people then appointed Yi Mo's son, [the present] Liao, as king. Prince Guang said [to himself], "Going in order of brothers, it's fitting that Ji Zi should take the throne. But if we must go in order of sons, then truly I, Guang, the heir of [Zhu Fan's] first wife should take the throne." Thus, he secretly employed resourceful ministers in an attempt to seize the throne.
