Raising a mug today to The Superstation, which closed down on this day in 1990 after just 27 months on air.

Mostly fondly remembered for its awesome Muff Murfin/TM jingles and ramps, a great presenting line-up, and for keeping tech-ops across the country in gainful employment!

Happy 55th Anniversary to BBC Radio London, launched on this day in 1970.

It’s had a number of variations in name and guise over the decades, the most notable departure being the GLR years of 1988-2000.

Another radio anniversary today: Kingdom FM launched on this day in 1998.

It remained “Fife’s feel good station” until it was absorbed into sister station, Original 106, at the beginning of this year.

We currently only have this one paltry sticker in the Archive so further additions welcome!!

Other presenters included original Light Programme host Franklin Engelmann, Don Moss (1963) and Gary Davies, who took over for a brief period in 2024 after the sad death of Steve Wright.

Particular kudos to King of the Picks, Alan Freeman, who reigned the longest over the Pops ( not ‘arf!) and also hosted the show’s only non-BBC stints over on Capital.

Can’t quite believe it’s 25 years ago today since the launch of Real Radio.

Real Radio South Wales launched on this day in 2000 and later in Scotland, Yorkshire, the North East and North West.
