diameter, the protocol the networking world all needed that was supposed to be a general replacement to the ancient radius protocol. which has several issues. Then the mobile carriers got a hold of diameter and made it pretty much only useful to them.

Sip: it's when you take the stateless protocol syntax of HTTP and combine it with the lossiness of UDP. In a protocol where loss and state matter very much.
