A bold new take on the beloved classic
No spoilers, but PLURIBUS may have just given us its own version of BREAKING BAD’s pizza on the roof.

She was a giant of Canadian sport.
Colleen Jones was larger than life.

I’m devastated by her death. And will be forever inspired by how she lived. And fought. And loved.

More than anything I’ll miss our laughs and lattes. And am so grateful for every second we had together. I love you, Coll.

Can someone get Trump to tell Disney to make the Jillian Bell / Channing Tatum SPLASH remake?

Finally got around to rewatching THE STRAIGHT STORY last night, and I don't know who needs to hear this but that is a damn fine movie.
Attention Canada: I’m not sure when it happened, but THE STRAIGHT STORY is now streaming on MUBI!
So as far as I can tell, there is no way to stream, rent, or buy THE STRAIGHT STORY online anywhere in Canada right now. Boo.

ANDOR is so great that it highlights some of the serious flaws of THE LAST JEDI, but y'all aren't ready for that discussion.

The Lady Eve instead of Sullivan's Travels
Female Trouble instead of Pink Flamingos

I'd also make room for at least one Farrelly brothers movie, likely Kingpin or (my eternal favorite) Stuck on You.
Like I said, I think the Variety comedy list is basically okay, even if no one else would come up with that list in that order. THAT SAID, give me your top funniest movies, maximum 1 per decade, that didn't make their list.

I just remembered: Charlie Brown doesn’t like coffee ice cream.

I could have anything. Anyone. Even you, Charlie Brown. I could ride you at a gallop until your legs buckled and your eyes rolled up. I’ve got muscles you’ve never even dreamed of. I could squeeze you until you popped like warm champagne and you‘d beg me to hurt you just a little bit more.

Dammit, I finally thought of a good Pope Singing post, but it feels like the moment has passed.

Saw the trailer for ETERNITY today, and my main thought was “I think this was filmed in Vancouver”, mostly because an escalator appeared for like half a second, and I’m pretty sure it’s the long escalator at the Granville SkyTrain station.

In case you were wondering how my brain works.

JAY KELLY: Baumbach and Sandgren shoot the hell out of this, and it’s too bad most people will just see it on Netflix. (Also, it’s a pretty good movie.)

Seeing the new HARD-BOILED remaster on a big screen is certainly a different experience than the last time I saw it, a shitty VHS on a shitty TV sometime in the late-90s.

It looks and sounds *amazing* and that last hour is really something.

And now this.

I haven't read his TWIN PEAKS books (yet), but I heartily recommend DEVIOUS DREAMS - and y'all know how much MULHOLLAND DRIVE means to me.
A bit of self-promotion:
If you’re shopping for a David Lynch or #TwinPeaks fan this holiday season, please consider my books. (A few readers have actually said they’re pretty good!) You can order them for your local bookstore (as well as that other place you all know about).

Speaking of Jeff Hiller, I've been listening to the audiobook of Actress of a Certain Age, and it's *fantastic*. It's worth a listen for the Isabelle Huppert anecdote alone.
Jeff! Hiller!

I was indeed the only person at CHRISTY last night. Good movie!

Almost as shocking as Sydney Sweeney's physical transformation was Merritt Wever's transformation into an irredeemable bitch.
Will I be the only person at this final evening screening of CHRISTY in Calgary? Let’s find out!

Just saw trailers for both JAY KELLY and SENTIMENTAL VALUE. Both open in Calgary on Friday… but only at the other theater chain.

I demand that competition shows get rid of surprise family reunion episodes, because I don’t need to be bawling through an episode of Top Chef Canada.

Update: I found and surpassed the Free Shipping threshold, so happy slightly belated birthday to me, I guess.
I really want to support the continued existence of physical media, but I'm not sure I'm willing to pay $22 for "standard shipping" of one $40 blu-ray.

Well, I guess I'll be going to Toronto at the end of February.
