The first of the three titipounamu nests I'm watching to hatch. This Dad has been busy feeding his babies since Saturday.

Ceecee’s first nest for the season is underway!

It’s her fifth nest overall (she builds two per year)

They don't fly terribly far as it is but it serves them for hopping between trees!

I googled them and they do seem a similar size. The foraging behaviour of the titipounamu also reminds me of the behavior of the tree creepers I saw visiting the PNW.

This young female titipounamu is half of a pair that I frequently see in upper Highbury. They often flit across the road into people's gardens.

I hope they will eventually become a more common sight down the hill where I live.

I don't know how well photos show just how tiny these titipounamu are. This girl weighs all of 7 grams and she has barely any tail. I've mistaken them for fat moths before.

But she loves her baths even when it's freezing!

Also loved the little chapter about New Zealand's use of bioforms in Dogs of War 😆.

The day after I finished reading Dogs of War by @aptshadow.bsky.social, the copy I ordered of Bear Head arrived all the way from the UK and, as an added bonus, it's signed!

Of course I was trying to type “trail cam”. This bird did nothing wrong and should not be on trial.

Caught this ruru on trial cam using the bath (in which it could barely fit)

This kererū’s tiny head was too hard to focus my camera on but I thought he’d still look great with a crown

I still lurk on it sometimes and it seems to load much more slowly for me now too. Sometimes it takes long enough that I think, "Wait what am I doing?" and then close it before I start doom-scrolling.

Female hihi, lGB-B, is using the bath a lot right now. I call her “li’l Gabby” to remember her bands.

I am jealous though also kind of glad boiled sweets aren't easy to just find at the supermarket or I wouldn't have any teeth left

There's one such asshole (you can guess who) who loves to use science fiction references and I'm pretty sure at least one of those authors would have hated his guts.

We were taught at primary school in NZ in the 1990's. I can still read them but I have to think about it if it's a big number
