🔭 The Universe is a dusty place.

This NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope picture shows swirling clouds of gas and dust near the Tarantula Nebula, the most productive star-forming region in the nearby Universe, home to the most massive stars known.

A portion of a nebula, made of variously-coloured layers of dust clouds. One upper layer is dark reddish dust which is dense and obscures light, in places so dense that it appears black. A middle layer is pale clouds that are thick like curling wisps of smoke. They form a broad bow across the centre of the image. Many small, bright stars lie throughout the nebula, coloured blue, purple or red depending on depth.

Finally decided to finish up a version of my own for this beautiful planetary nebula. I did a LOT of cleaning up of the banding issues once again using the G'MIC noise debanding filter. I also decided to do something a little different with that central pool of soft but bright, hazy light. I used one of the filters to mostly remove it, revealing the central details more clearly. This leaves the overall image pretty heavy on the red and orange side of things, but I think it looks pretty cool like this.

A supernova and its host galaxy 💫🔭

Today's NASA/ESA #HubbleSpaceTelescope image is of LEDA 132905 and a supernova named SN 2022abvt which was discovered in late 2022.

In the exact centre a supernova is seen as a small but bright blue dot. It lies atop a spiral galaxy, close to the glowing centre and next to some bright patches of blue stars in the galaxy. A small number of more minor galaxies are visible around the comparatively large spiral as small glowing discs, while further distant galaxies are seen as mere orangish spots and smudges, all on a black background.
