Relateable I’m in my 40s content

ugh yes all this layered on to the review process which is already unsustainable and a mess of unpaid labor. not a great scene!

also what gets me is that, AI is just harvesting info that other real ppl have contributed. so if you increasingly take the ppl out of the equation, by defunding the positions that give them the platform to think and innovate and code, what will you have left, just increased regurgitation??
ravensymbiont.bsky.social
i guess i think (in my case at least) that doing the labor was part of getting to the intellectual contribution. like i have always learned best by doing, by getting in there and wrestling with data. maybe AI can assist w/this, but i also think speed can be the enemy of intellect

i do feel like there's a worrisome thing around publishing for publishing's sake. like, are we out here to play the science game and generate as much material as possible? who will read it if we replace a lot of scientists with AI? i guess, other AI? it's a weird closed feedback loop?
ravensymbiont.bsky.social
I have questions about the efficiency part - like replacing the post doc who might take months to do a task. Is the goal to produce analyses as quickly as possible, or are we trying to build human capacity & knowledge? To invest in ppl who can engage w/science from different perspectives?
ravensymbiont.bsky.social
In my experience most of the learning about data processing, analysis and statistics has come through the (sometimes painful, line by line) doing of it. You learn by doing. If AI is doing it or large chunks of it, can you still learn how things work in detail?
ravensymbiont.bsky.social
I also think that 1. AI is pulling script from real ppl; at the bottom of these models are many ppl who know how to use code to deploy data processing and analysis and 2. I wonder about the focus on efficiency - like is the goal to churn out material or to build human capacity/knowledge…

The thing is, to be able to determine whether AI-generated code is “legit”, you need to know both statistics and coding yourself. If we no longer teach students to learn, think, and struggle—without the help of AI—the next generation will have no clue what is and isn’t legit.

Y'all. I just got ChatGPT to do everything in R for this manuscript. I mean EVERYTHING. And it's all legit and reproducible. I'm shook.

How are we mentoring our trainees in statistics now? Who needs to learn coding in R line by line, and who doesn't?

As a family that buys a lot of roblox gift cards for our kid and others and who pays for two Minecraft servers I agree with this

The thing about spraining my ankle as a rando out in the wild is that I do not have access to info I expect as a sports fan - what grade of strain, how long til I get re-evaluated, when will I be listed as available
ravensymbiont.bsky.social
Sprained my ankle really badly last night, not great. At least I’m in good company.

If I stay on track I guess what’s next for me is single handed takedown of Cathy Engelbert

Jaden looks huge lol, do I forget every season how tall he really is

More wolves preseason - my eyes are still trained for the Lynx, things I’m missing -

-really good vertical defense in the post (Smith, Carleton)
-the slash and pass intermediate point guard role (Carleton)

-thing that kind of aligns is Naz and Phee, so skilled, moving without the ball
ravensymbiont.bsky.social
Catching up on wolves preseason-

nuggets are kinda stacked now huh, with these vets. Jokic A and Jokic B (Valanciunus! *shakes fist*).

Beringer pretty bouncy, interesting. If he got better on D could he but a Derek Lively type hm

Gosh I’ve missed Naz, his touch

TJ on the dribble 🔥

Catching up - where/how did you all watch wolves game last night?

thinking about how awesome it is that Napheesa Collier has an immaculate reputation as a player and a person, is beloved by everyone she works with, is on the leadership team of the WNBA players union, and has her own super fun league to stand on

she's just killing it so hard at all times
ravensymbiont.bsky.social
got to see Cornbread Harris w/his band at Crooner's last night & it was so excellent. recommend!

then this morning for some reason before getting up i scrolled thru a bunch of terrible stuff on the internet. do not recommend!

well, getting things half right!

Very proud of my colleagues right now--especially @ramyakrishnan.bsky.social and @alexabdo.bsky.social. But we could not have got this far without the superb trial lawyers at Sher Tremonte. Grateful to them for all of the time and energy they put into this case. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/30/u...

Just got covid and flu shots at CVS. They asked me zero questions about eligibility based on any conditions etc. Thank you state of Minnesota or whoever made this possible!

would definitely read an endless thread of other athletes and sports ppl praising Phee for telling it like it is

The guts Napheesa Collier and these women have to fight, take the risks w/ their livelihood + jobs. Amidst all the negative outside noise w/ the league from people who don’t watch, labor negotiations, in the prominent women’s sports league still in the shadow of men’s leagues. Is so admirable.

ON BLAST

i love Phee so much

Napheesa Collier's full statement at the beginning of her exit interview.

She directly quotes conversations with Cathy Englebert that legitimately call into question how the WNBA is being led. (Part 1/2) #WNBASky

What a great team. Can’t wait til #LynxBack

Man I so agree with this, her physical defense and momentum plays exactly what we needed
