Really struggling to say anything good about Three at the moment, after a horrific ordeal trying to renew my contract - dropped calls, misrepresentation, overcharging, repeated correcting and painfully slow chat response, I can say they have become and unmitigated customer service disaster.

This weekend a contingent of UK Demosceners, families and friends took a trip to the @retrocollective.co.uk Museum and Arcade Archive - I have to say it was an absolute highlight and a great start to the year and I strongly recommend anyone interested to check it out! I'll do a write-up soon!

I can't overstate, this has be one of the best ZX Spectrum games of all time, and this wonderful companion piece goes into detail on the intricate detail and artistry that bought this technical marvel to life.

Getting back to funky days with a CP80 vs VDrum (played live) session. I'm always blown away that I can just take all the techniques I learnt in analogue studios and apply them in this odd hybrid DAW space! Old habbits: if I need to scroll vertically there's too many tracks! EQs all in a rack :-P

Just ordered a SuperStationONE (FPGA-based console) from Retro Remake - it also runs MiSTer cores and has a beautiful PSOne style aesthetic.

It's $222 delivered, but as the exchange rate from USD-GBP is good, it ends up being £170.23 which is a stonking bargain!

Check the SuperDock ($39) also!

I just finished Doom: The Dark Ages and can highly recommend it. Gonna give Doom Eternal another go as I didn't finish it... :)

Quite inspired by @fl1ne.bsky.social's 2025 year in review.

Reminds me a lot of @ctrix64.bsky.social in Australia, an uncynical thirst for creativity and making the most of life:

If anyone was in two minds about buying Doom: The Dark Ages, I can strongly recommend it, and it's half price on Steam. I was reluctant as I thought Eternal was too hard, but this game has a wonderful fun and exhilirating combat loop and incredible environmental detail. Game of the Year for me.

Arcades in the late 80’s / early 90’s were a big deal, the cutting edge of gaming. So big in fact that bootleg versions of top of the line games would appear on the black market. A quic…

Probably no one cares but when Scooter had Rick J Jordan as part of the lineup, he brought magic to the music.
This remix of Discolights by Ultrabeat is a monster - a breakdown that's dark and ethereal and a heads down driving mission through the rest of the track: www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHEj...

Having seen GamersNexus scathing take on the RAM price inflation it really does make me worry that the idea of personal computing may become impossible and we end up with contract subsidised thin client devices whose sole purpose is to serve infinite scroll slop from the panopticon.

For the love of god can we please stop with the trend of speaking directly into lapel / wireless microphones in online content? It's not only terrible for dynamics but also kinda intrusive if you're wearing headphones. Pleeeassseeee!

Audio Compression friends - Google have a very interestingly but rather awkwardly named perceptual metric for audio compression called Zimtohrli (!) - think of it like Netflix's VMAF for audio:

I'd be really interested to see how it compares to historical ABX tests.
