Kevin McKendree on keys is a whole mood at the Troubadour. 🎹✨Percy Mayfield classic.
Got to sing one of my favorites “Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee” on The Broken Record Pod! This one was written back in 2020 out in Colorado with my good friend Joe Henry. What started out as a tribute to this legendary blues duo morphed into an anthem about kindness and understanding for all!
Baby, tell me what needs mending ❤️‍🩹
“A Ways Away”, live at The Troubadour with the Good Road Band.
John joined the Broken Record Pod to talk about music, songwriting, and the new album. Full episode: youtu.be/CCNDOqtHqEo

Time in nature, cooking at home, and moments with the people I love. That’s how I fill my cup ☕️ What about you?

I loved getting to recut “Walking in Memphis” and add a bit of an EDM twist to it with Grabbitz for my album OATES.
“Bajo La Luz De La Luna” was written for Gringa, an independent film by a friend of mine. It was a fun one to write and captures the essence of young love on a beach in Mexico.
For Your Grammy Consideration:
“Enough is Enough” ft Lawrence for Song of The Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance

“Walking in Memphis” Grabbitz Remix for Pop & Dance / Electronic Remixed Recording
I'm a big bossanova fan, so that's where I drew a lot of inspiration for, "Dreamin About Brazil" from. So grateful to have the talented Wendy Moten lend her incredible vocals to this track!
“Get Your Smile On” had a unique songwriting process. I loved partnering with Teen Cancer America and Play It Back Songs on the music video for this one, it’s been so special to see this song touch the lives of so many people!
We all know what it feels like to be a little “Disconnected.” That’s what this song is about. Give it a listen, and tell me what it means to you.
This one means a lot to me. “A Ways Away” is one of my favorite songs on OATES, and performing it on my recent tour was a true highlight.

We all hit walls in life. “Pushin’ A Rock” is my take on finding the strength to keep going. I hope it gives you a little fuel when you need it most. ✌🏼👊🏼
“World Gone Wrong” came from imagining how empty life would be without my family. That feeling is at the heart of this song.
When table conversation turns into a jam… always a blast hanging with Lawrence.
“Let Me Be The One” is a simple song in the best way. The process just flowed so naturally, and writing it with Ron Artis made it even more special. Hope you all check it out.
The stars of your new favorite sitcom 🤩 Who’s tuning in?
The “A Ways Away” Live from SIR performance video premieres on YouTube this Friday at 12 pm PT, and I’ll be going live afterwards to discuss the album! This is a special track, and I’m thrilled to have captured this performance with The Good Road Band to share with you all.
Funny how even the songwriting process itself can be an inspiration for the song. ✨
“A Ways Away” is out now on my new album Oates! What track should we dive into next? And don’t miss it, I’ll be going live on @youtube this Friday at 12pm PT to share a live performance of the song.
Thanks to Clyde & Gracie Lawrence for inviting me up at Aspen Jazz Fest. Such a great time making music together.
