Nah. You guys see kids get shot on the news every week and no one bats an eye (which is also intolerable in any other established, wealthy liberal democracy). Plus these videos have been absolutely everywhere for months now and Trump's support is still ~40%
Yeah, I agree with the commenter in the original thread. The GOP is captured by fascists and the situation is basically as threatening as possible imo. Tom is fairly curmudgeonly on social media
I agree completely. I'm Canadian, we're scared stiff watching Trump denegrate and destroy the USA. I think people should protest literally every weekend or escape now. If I was queer or non-white I would leave ASAP. This is only going 1 direction and the groundswell needed to stop it, isnt happening
I think that's a fantastic question. I am not up to date on domestic Russian politics. I'd love to read about the categorizations around authoritarianism, since it's ideologically fluid, especially (very relevant now) the overlaps/relationship with neo-fascism
I believe Tom's point is that MAGA and Trump are fascists, their world view is fascist, but the US govt is not a consolidated, consummate, fascism regime. It's current status is probably a competitive authoritarian government, or at least backsliding rapidly into that category 6 mo's in
