Making bicycling mirrors (with 1,400 bottle cap options and bike spokes) and other cool stuff from used bicycle parts 🚲♻️🍺 https://linktr.ee/ReBcycle #BeerViewMirrors

I’m out in Colorado and stopped by the #DillonDamBrewery, sampling their dark beer before filling our growler (from #FortPointBeer) and heading up to camp overlooking the #FlatTopsWilderness. Love the #DamBikeJersey in the background at the brewery. #DamBeer
There are a bunch of good brands out there, but #EcoGeek from @thegooddotstore.bsky.social gives all its profits to restoring coral reefs instead of billionaires, so I’d recommend them. (Not a sponsored post)

It feels a bit bleak right now but that means oue advocacy, particularly at the state and local level, is all the more important.

One positive trend on the reduced consumption side is the switch to dehydrated cleaning supplies, which reduce plastic packaging and GHG use in shipping.
So, do your individual actions but also advocate for change, not just in your social media feed but talking to elected officials and agency staff about how to incentivize sustainability through legislative and funding decisions.
Individual choices we make (biking to work, picking up litter, buying less plastic/disposable stuff) do help the planet, but it’s our efforts to make structural changes (passing a Bottle Bill, improving the non-driving options for a city, reducing impervious surface) that really bring about change.
Lots of beer and food options at @bcbrewing.bsky.social (across the street from the Light Rail, although they need good bike racks) and a good rest point before heading to Mt. Washington to right the last segment. Can’t wait for Baltimore Co. DPWT to connect the NCR Trail down to Lake Roland Park.
Beautiful ride along the @marylanddnr.bsky.social NCR/Torrey C. Brown Trail past Monkton and all the way down to Ashland with SO many people enjoying the trail, then a couple of lousy on-street miles to get to the @mta.maryland.gov Gilroy Road Light Rail Station.
Spending Good Friday biking back to Baltimore from New Freedom, PA on the NCR/Torrey C. Brown Trail. If you live in Maryland and like trails take the @marylanddot.bsky.social Maryland Transportation Trails Survey. survey123.arcgis.com/share/fef3e0...
Great list because the bike racks on most buses in the US can accommodate bicycles up to 50 pounds.
Thanks! It’s not for everyone but I feel much safer when riding with a mirror and have heard from other customers that it has helped them be prepared for or avoid dangerous situations.
Thanks for asking. Hope you find what you’re looking for.
I’ve never made anything like that and not sure that I could. The acrylic mirrors that I have laser cut for me are flat and I’m not sure if I could make something that would fit in a bar end. Mine all fit on glasses, helmets, and baseball caps and the non-helmet options are easy to remove.
Simple and beautiful
Love the quotes from these folks and that the paper captured the diversity of backgrounds and experiences.
I finally bought a cargo bike more than a decade ago (after stressing for years about the cost) when I agreed we would spend $600 to fix our car without a moment’s hesitation. It reminded me that you need to invest in the transportation mode you want to use.
Census commuting data is more reliable than Strava but far from perfect. It doesn’t accurately reflect multimodal trips, has a relatively small sample size, and probably undercounts low income users. There’s lots we don’t know about utilitarian bicycle trips, but the commuter % is depressingly low.
Gotta take the data with a considerable amount of salt because Strava users are significantly whiter and wealthier than your average bicycle rider, but it can be a useful data source despite that.
Just posted about myself riding a Lime bike to a brewery for a beer and found this article about how Lime bikes are making London pubs more accessible to new patrons. @bmorecitydot.bsky.social has worked to create corrals for bikes and scooters in high demand areas.

How Lime Bikes Changed the London Pub Scene
Lime bikes, everywhere. Stacked outside south London institution Skehans as 20-somethings guzzle Guinness indoors; crammed into tight rows beside Dalston’s Prince George, the sun setting behind the bi...

Wico is on the ground floor of the old industrial building where the robotics team practices. I took a break from Dry January to support them. $5.50/beer and $5 all you can play pinball with a beverage on Wed. Wico still needs a bike rack, but there’s space for a Lime bike. www.wicostreetbeerco.com

Had some free time between work and my son’s robotics practice so I was able to bike over to the Wico Street Beer Co for a Paloma Weisse, a Berlinerweisse brewed in partnership with Pickett Brewing, also part of the South Baltimore Brewery District in the Pigtown neighborhood. #BikesAndBeers
Love the space for the cargo bike but the racks I’ve used of that design are poorly secured to the ground and frequently unstable. Good location, but a bad rack in my humble opinion. Good racks are metal, ideally of square tubing (2” OD) and strongly bolted into concrete. And close to the entrance.
Those are great, esp. on commuter routes into downtown areas. I’ve participated in and led them before. But they miss the people riding bikes around neighborhoods. Then agencies don’t have good info when folks say “no one rides bikes around here”. Looking for new ways to get more data.
Wouldn’t need live data, just archived info about where bicycles (and pedestrians) are seen on street, ideally using multiple years. Some places are updated more often, so it would need to be normalized by number of photos available, but it would be more data than currently available.
Yeah, this StreetView photo of me commuting on my cargo bike is one of my favorites. I’d love to figure out how to use image recognition to have Google StreetView inform bicycle and pedestrian counts for planning purposes.
Female ginkgo trees drop really smelly fruit in the fall so if you’re planting a ginkgo it’s important to ensure you get a male. But a beautiful bottle cap from Perennial. Their bottled beers (where I am) tend to be very good but expensive & in 750 ml bottles, so a very high cost per cap.
