We also saw a herd of about 500 of these awesome animals!
African buffalo are one of the most dangerous animals in Africa. They can way 900 kg and are apparently considered grumpy.
I’d be grumpy too if I had to carry a bunch of yelling red-billed oxpeckers around all the time!

Some lovely things here and proceeds to Birds Canada!
I’m auctioning off a bevy of beautiful knit-by-me samples starting Nov 27th over on Instagram. All proceeds will be donated to Birds Canada.

I’d love if you could help broadcast to a wider audience. A small sampling below:

Had written about but never seen this eagle until this trip.
There are a lot of different eagle and hawk species in South Africa, but there was one in particular that I was hoping to see.
It was kind of hidden by branches, high in a tree , but then, this African Fish Eagle took off to check out the riverbank in the late evening light!

We had the great privilege to see giraffes like this. They were just so calm and thoughtful. 💛
Hi there!
This giraffe took time out from munching on leaves to check us out for a few seconds. At over 5 meters tall, they eat the leaves that no body else can reach!

Fellow nonfiction lovers, here’s a great thread to find new reads!
Ok BlueSky: what are your favorite history books in terms of sheer page-turning, narrative propulsion? Thinking along the line of Killers of the Flower Moon, etc. Nonfiction chronicles that read like novels or movies.

Settled in for the Grey Cup and just have to say that I am so proud to have a Prime Minister who can go out in public, interact with people, and not be a complete douche.

Go Riders!!

This was such an amazing bird to see!
Rollers are a group of birds that get their name from their
dramatic tumbling flight during courtship and territorial displays.
While we did see a bit of those displays, this Lilac-breasted Roller seemed mainly concerned with flashing his fancy colours!

An adult Rhinoceros can weigh 5000 lbs, so it’s appropriate that a group of rhinoceroses is called a “crash”. They go where they want.
These White Rhinoceroses were slowly eating their way across the plain. Mom is front and centre and always kept an eye on the “little” baby on the left!

I ❤️ Neil Young!
In 1989, Neil Young was part of a US/Russia cultural exchange that fell apart. His guitarist said, “Man, I guess we're just gonna have to keep on rockin’ in the free world.”

“Poncho,” said Young, “that's a good line. I'm gonna use that.”

Born today in 1945. 🎸
