In that case, yeah. Gun fu looks ridiculous and usually the way to drive tension forward in a gunfight scene is the setting and external factors like gun jams, hostages, fighting over an object and ducking in and out of cover.

-Have the main character not just fight but constantly have him protect an unarmed target
-Mcguffin object always getting out of reach or in danger during the fight
