Now with cherubs it's confusing, since theirs halos were not taken and they were shown to create a portal back to Heaven from Earth. Maybe it's considered vandalising to take an angel's halo even if they are banished and they are expected to follow the order and not come back on their own?

I can only assume halos can create a portral back to Heaven, that's why Vaggie's was taken, so she had no way to create a path back. Same with Lucifer, so his is probably damaged(Satan showed a figure of Lucifer with a halo over him so he probably fell with it).

And the halo. It seems it's physical since it didn't disappear after Adam's death and Adam could easily take Vaggie's away. It is unknown if Lucifer still has his or it was taken or damaged.

Adam is a stronger angel and thus he was shown with angelic glow in Hell.
Lucifer still has his angelic glow, proving again that he is a mix of an angel and a demon.

It is unknown if exorcists can glow at all given that they never used any magic, the only time was when Lute glowed red when she was executing Vaggie, but that could be an artistic choice(or a burst of magic due to emotional ordeal).

The Earth requires some effort to someone the power and thus cherubs are show glowing on Earth(including after banishement). Hell naturally supresses holy energy and thus when they entered Hell they immediately stopped glowing.

Now, the glowing. It shows the holy power the angel has(like demonic aura of sorts). In Heaven no one needs to show it off since they are in the center of everything holy.

Vaggie spent 3 years in Hell and has lil' fangs now. Additionally because she regenerated her wings in Hell, they changed colour.
Cherubs did not spend anywhere near needed amount of time in Hell for any change to even start.

An angel becomes a fallen angel when their bodies start absorbing hellish energy. Lucifer spent 10000 years in Hell and even though he has some very open demonic features, he still looks pretty angelic.

Her losing wings is not needed to prevent her from going back(Heaven is visible but the magic barrier prevents anyone from Hell to leave), it was just another way to cause her pain.

New(old?xD) theory on how Fall works in hellaverse.

Lucifer is officially banished from Heaven and cannot go back. Vaggie was pushed out by essentially higher management. Same with cherubs.
