Oregon and Penn State are public schools. Thanks to FOIA, we know how much their athletic departments receive and spend, including how much allocated to football. Reports had Oregon around $23 million in NIL. Even if Penn State was at $0 (it’s not close to $0), that’s less than the $35 million gap.

I mean that’s easy to say, but has that actually been the case. According to public records that have been released, Penn State has spent more than Oregon on football operations. Oregon reportedly has not been at the very top of NIL payments either.

Oregon is still only getting a half share of Big Ten TV money. A $35+ million difference is a lot.

What’s Dan Lanning’s buyout? (mostly joking but Oregon does have that history)

I assume this means new permanent head coach, not the interim head coach.

Penn State is one of a handful of schools that would care about the optics of hiring Fitzgerald given the reason why he got fired.

The Northwestern stripes look like a graduation hood, which is pretty funny.

Do Boise State, SDSU, etc. still get the $1.8 million per G5 school from the CFP?

If it’s ESPN and/or CBS, they will want premium matchups even if they take fewer games overall, like the 2025 deal. Maybe they split Tier One rights three ways and CW takes more games. I’d also guess the deal is closer to $8 million, sacrificing some money for better exposure.

I’d guess something like ESPN and CBS alternating first picks (maybe ESPN gets 60-70%), the other gets second pick (usually ESPN2/ESPNU or CBSSN), CW gets third, excess to ESPN+ or Paramount+ (no TNT). ESPN games are mostly Friday nights with 2-3 Saturday After Dark plus a random Thursday or two.

The TV deal probably looks a lot like the 2025 deal. Tier 1 is split between ESPN (Friday nights and select Saturday After Dark) and CBS (few prime time plus CBSN/P+) with both airing basketball (Gonzaga) games. CW airs 1-2 games per week. If there’s a fourth network, WB/Turner takes any leftovers.

I see that on November 7, Fox is giving the 1996 Rose Bowl rematch the national platform it deserves.

The Big 12 needs to be careful because even if the SEC goes along with 5+11, it will try to Trojan horse a strength of schedule requirement into the selection process that would essentially bump all Big 12 (and ACC) at-large candidates below 9-win SEC (and Big Ten) teams.
