I’m happy we were able to put our differences aside for the time being, but moving forward we need less finger pointing and more problem solving to deliver a budget that works for everyone. I will continue to share updates as I learn more.

Early this morning a short-term budget agreement was signed that will allow vital services to stay open while budget talks move forward.

UPDATE: As of 4:07 p.m. this evening, all campus buildings at Monroe County Community College's Main Campus in Monroe and the Whitman Center in Temperance have been cleared and declared safe. The Main Campus and Whitman Center will be open as usual tomorrow.

I’m following the news of the threat to Monroe County Community College this morning. I’m relieved to learn that everyone is okay. Campus security is working with the Monroe County Sheriff's Department to ensure the scene is clear and is asking that everyone remain off campus.

In the last 4 years, they’ve donated about 650 bikes to people in Milan, Saline, Detroit, and even families as far away as Lansing and Toledo!

​​The next tribute was to Vern and Leslie White for their work in getting bicycles and tricycles to people in need. You may know Vern as the “Milan Bike Guy.” This couple has spent the last 4 summers designing and building custom bikes primarily for people with disabilities.

This couple’s passion for strengthening community ties through healthy food turned the Zilke Vegetable Farm Stand and Farm Kitchen into a trusted source for local produce in Milan for years.

Just recently, we presented tributes to two wonderful families who have given back so much to their community in Milan. The first tribute was to Tom and Vicki Zilke to commemorate their retirement and acknowledge all of the contributions they have brought to Milan over the past 14 years.

Next Thursday, EGLE will be hosting a public hearing and informational meeting for the proposed WDI landfill expansion. We need everyone to join together to submit their comments to EGLE before the deadline closes on October 31 at 5:00 pm.
