I'm sorry but it's just wild we are in the middle of a government shutdown and the House Republicans are REFUSING TO SHOW UP FOR WORK so they can protect billionaire pedophiles and billionaire tax breaks.

I mean, in a way, he has a point. It hasn't "helped" at work according to every available piece of data and every study on the topic.

"Given the unprecedented market valuations and the sheer scale of the sums involved, I must ask: What, exactly, is the purpose? If AI...cannot be marshaled in ways that materially solve our biggest problems, what will all this have been for?" Good question www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/a...
AI Is Pointless If It Doesn’t Boost Productivity
Jim O'Neill worries that the technology’s potential to address our biggest challenges is being squandered.

Important but atrociously written. First it uses the "critics argue" framing to absolve the author from stating the obvious fact that there is no actual insurrection. Then it takes the administration's word that they plan to "exhaust all other options"...for putting down a nonexistent insurrection?

Meh. No biggie. It's not like banks using opaque loans has ever bit us in the ass before, right?

Weird. Those are also his primary qualifications for the job and why he got it.

And who would pay for the labor/raw material to produce these things we are consuming that are now near free or completely free? Genius stuff, really.

ANDREESSEN: Even if AI ends up destroying all the jobs, “the result would be hyper-deflation of prices, which is the thing that people miss. .. Things that today cost a lot of money will all of a sudden be cheap or free.”

How is it that we can be sinking quickly into authoritarianism while life moves on mostly normally for much of the population and in the markets? This article on the normative/prerogative state is both an explanation and a warning. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
The “dual state” theory was invented to describe Nazis. The Supreme Court could take us there.
Authoritarianism—but make it look like the rule of law.

Federal agents hurled tear gas at people on a busy Logan Square street, outside a grocery store and near an elementary school.

Reckless, undertrained ICE hires are a danger to everyone. This is terrorism against US citizens.

An at risk group wearing masks and carrying guns? I used to think that these tech companies were just spineless in the face of aggressive fascism, but their continual decisions to capitulate with little or no actual pressure is convincing me that they might not have any problem at all with fascism.
remotesynthesis.com
Also, why even bother referencing "out intelligence" when you have no intention of ever sharing any actual evidence. If he's so tough and lethal, why the need to justify your aggression behind obvious lies? Just own it, tough guy.

Look. I don't think we really need additional proof that Trump has no intention to ever leave office, but, if you needed any, the idea that he'd use money he'd personally extorted from American institutions/corporations for a White House ballroom and hand that over to the next President is laughable
esqueer.net
Trump is now shaking down tech companies to pay for his ballroom and conservative orgs. This is insane.
Alt text: Screenshot of an article excerpt stating that YouTube will pay $22 million to settle claims made by Trump to the nonprofit Trust for the National Mall, which supports construction of the White House State Ballroom. It also mentions YouTube will pay $2.5 million to settle with other plaintiffs, including the American Conservative Union.

Great post on how "Biden censorship regime" lies were laundered through right-wing activists, captured courts, MAGA Congressional committees into a lazy/compliant media. The acceptance and refusal to correct the lies underpins current state-sponsored censorship. www.lawfaremedia.org/article/spee...
Speech, Coercion, and the Myth of the Censorship Regime
Google's letter to Rep. Jim Jordan inadvertently provides evidence against the "censorship industrial complex" narrative he is using it to support.

We need a bigger national spotlight on this building raid, fam. Agents dropped from helicopters onto the roof. Citizens and non-citizens alike were dragged from their homes in the night. People who weren't kidnapped during the raid had their belongings seized after the fact. This is madness.

The idea, popular in tech, that it takes a degree of ruthlessness unencumbered by morality to win is false. It's led us into accepting the worst leaders as both special & necessary. We do not need to accept these people as leaders of our companies or countries. We don't need to accept them at all.

A brutal/necessary takedown of DHH by @jakelazaroff.com — with receipts! It's only based on his recent blog post but let's be clear that DHH has left a long trail of toxicity. The free passes our community has given these folks for too long is why we're where we are. jakelazaroff.com/words/dhh-is...

DHH's politics are not normal. Maybe they used to be, I don't know, but as of right now the dude is way outside of what most people would consider moral or acceptable.

Seeing as there is no way to distinguish where the Trump admin ends and the Supreme Court begins, can it be mere coincidence that YouTube decides to pay a $24.5m bribe to Trump while Google is asking the SC to intervene in its case against Epic? www.supremecourt.gov/docket/docke...

It's a minor point amongst the awfulness of the message, but he is seriously slurring his words. The man sounds drunk but we know he doesn't drink.

Well he literally tried to get the CTO/co-founder to fire me from my new job for using Netlify in a tutorial I did for the company (I was not aware we were in partnership discussions). That story actually gets more interesting too in terms of pettiness but I'll leave it at that for now.

Exactly. Their statement of support for the president is definitive, as is their opposition to Mahmdani. The only thing conditional is their potential opposition to something Trump might do in the future.
