artists support each other when systems will not. there's little safety net. it is resilience. artists are not your competitors. artists are your peers, mentors, and the ones who will defend the ability to create sustainably.

to those who struggle to continue drawing,
you are an artist.

I understand gut reaction, they are very similar, but I think it's really unfortunate to accuse someone over so little and then not apologize after it was cleared up.

I just don't know how you live in a reality where someone —who clearly is also a very competent artist— making an entirely different piece with a different subject, who went and made a separate sword outline, came back to use your art for... placement of an arch that doesn't even completely line up?
renrooked.bsky.social
these are very clearly two different outlines of the same publicly available sword? i think it's really disappointing to accuse plagiarism towards another artist over such a simple and common use of swords in artwork

thank you that's really true, perhaps the only way past it is by trying until it's easier

struggling so hard to get past this deep seeded embarrassment about sharing my thoughts and opinions (and most importantly, my art) publicly

i don't know when it started because i used to do it without issue but now i have so much anxiety about it for no discernible reason

a hips-up digital portrait of a faun character. he has light skin and short reddish-brown wavy hair with prominent white streaks on the left side. the fur on his thighs and hips is a similar shade of brown, and so are the filigree tattoos on his arms, the backs of his hands and neck. he has long horns that curve out from the top of his head and then back towards his chin; the top part is brown with thin carvings, while the bottom is dark blue and reminiscent of a starry sky. he is wearing an elaborate and well-fitted white outfit with golden trims and detailing, the lining of his wide split sleeves featuring the same starry sky as his horns. he is standing confidently, holding four cards in his right hand by his hip, and a fifth in his left, delicately pinching it between his index and middle fingers and covering his left eye with it. the backs of the cards are burgundy in color and feature a golden eye-like design. the background behind the character also features eyes, stylized and simple, one of them framing his head like a halo.

my favorite color palette this year 💙
collage of two digital paintings.

Image on the left: Digital painting of a merman with rich, royal blue skin and fins. His tail is encrusted with a porcelain armor of sorts, with ornate carvings and patterns on it, almost similar to a ceramic vase. He is donning a pair of concrete bracelets, and a helmet in the same texture as his tail, with a sapphire centerpiece. His hair is flowing in the water, and he is playing a 5 string porcelain vase.

Image on the right: Digital painting of an elegant merman. There is a glow of royal blue coming out of a cavity in middle of his upper torso in the middle that extends to his abdomen, and out of two columns of holes in his bottom portion. His tail seems to be a hollow flesh and the blue magic extends out to form his fish tail. There is a royal blue sword on top of the character; the sword is slim and sharp, and the blade is sculpted to have an impaled fish on its end.
a collage of two digital paintings.

Image on the left: a man kissing a merman on the cheek and they are surrounded by fish. The illustration is almost abstract, with a color palette of vibrant and dark blues, and pale grays.

Image on the right: Digital painting of a merfolk creature, perched on top of a pillar. The creature has two pairs of fins protruding out of his head, webbed hands that have sharp claws, and a long fish tail coming out his lower back. He is displaying his backside, and there is a row of spiked fins that run from his nape to his fish tail. He is looking over his shoulder, and his eyes are blaring red. There are ruins in the background of the illustration.
Digital painting of a warrior and his sea monster companion.

The warrior has spiky, white armor created from bones of fish and sea creatures, and there are elegant patterns engraved on them. In the crevices of the armor, his flesh can be seen, and it is almost iridescent blue. He is holding up a blade with an intricate skull hilt.

Behind him is a colossal skeleton of a fish, but with long, serpentine spine. It appears to be sentient.

image on the left: Digital painting of a centaur with unicorn horn on his forehead, and big butterfly wings. He has elegant hair and tail that is flowing in the wind.

Image on the right: Digital painting of a fairy with giant blue morpho butterfly wings and a faint halo, holding a lantern that attracts butterflies.

wanting to get into 3D modeling with blender but it seems so daunting when what i really want to practice is digitally painting said models

i noticed that as well, etsy even suggests them right at the top of every remotely related listing so it's inescapable

planned all year to make a comic, designed all the characters, fleshed out the story outline, only to decide maybe i actually want to write a novel and leave art as something fun to do on the side for certain scenes? maybe i want to do a series of animatics? who knows, not me

worked on so much this year in the name of practice that never saw the light of day, next year the goal is to get more into comic work and doing full compositions (which i plan to share way more of)

but the learning never ends when you can never decide what you want to actually DO forever
