🌾For producers, this means a big step forward: the ability to identify and retain replacement heifers that calve earlier and stay productive long making fertility a central driver of herd reproductive efficiency.

🐮 This trait is based on how soon a heifer becomes pregnant after her first mating.

📊Researchers tested how fertility changed animal rankings and found that top-ranked heifers under the new index were those that combined strong growth with earlier and more reliable conception.
🐄 Fertility varies among young female cows (heifers). Until recently, the Angus HeiferSELECT index focused on growth and carcase traits, not fertility.

💡A new study by Angus Australia and @csiropublishing.bsky.social added a fertility measure, #HeiferConception into the index.

#AgResearch
🤖 This marks a pivotal step toward responsibly embedding deep learning into IVF practice - where evidence-based AI tools complement human expertise to improve efficiency, and ultimately, outcomes for those pursuing #fertility treatment.

📊The study found that the AI system wasn’t yet proven to be as effective as human embryologists at selecting embryos that lead to #pregnancy, though it showed potential in efficiency.(It sped up embryo evaluation by up to 10-fold)

#reproductivehealth  #artificialintelligence
💡A new study by Aussie researchers tested whether deep learning #AI could help make this process faster and more consistent, using an algorithm called iDAScore (Intelligent Data Analysis Score).

🧬A challenging aspect of #IVF process is choosing the best embryo that has potential to give a live birth. #Embryologists will remove embryos from the incubator to assess them under a microscope, a method that’s effective but time-consuming and can slightly disturb the embryos.
💬This empowers men and couples to ask the right questions, push for thorough care and improve their chances of conceiving, while reducing unnecessary stress and treatments for women.

🩺For the first time, doctors in Australia have a clear, evidence-based standard for investigating and treating male infertility.
#maleinfertility #reproductivehealth #menshealth #clinicalguidelines
👨‍⚕️Healthy Male has released Australia’s first Clinical guidelines for the management of male infertility.

📘 These national guidelines bring together the latest evidence and expert consensus to support clinicians, improve care, and enhance outcomes for men and their partners.
Monitoring how these pollutants move through and affect our #ecosystems and bodies- including their potential adverse impacts on #reproductivehealth, allows researchers to better understand their effect on planetary and human health.

🔍 Aussie scientists have now developed a way to detect nanoplastics using an “optical sieve.” This tool reveals colour changes when the tiny particles are captured.

#nanoplastics #environmentalresearch #microplastics
🧫 Nanoplastics, smaller than 1 micron, are everywhere. These pollutants threaten #humanhealth, #aquaticlife, and soil ecosystems.

🌱 Despite the significant health risks associated with nanoplastics, their impact remains largely unknown due to the difficulty in detecting them.
🧠 Magpies have an incredible memory and they will remember if you are friend or foe. So if you can’t avoid the area, make friends!

🌏Understanding why magpies swoop can help us stay safe while respecting magpies' space.

🚲Fast-moving, bright-coloured people near the nests where Aussie magpies are raising their young (e.g. people on bicycles, scooters or skateboards) may be seen as a threat.

🖤🤍 Swooping season is here!

🇦🇺Australian magpies swoop at anything they see as a threat to protect their young family during nesting season.🪺 This behaviour is “reproduction in action”, a natural way for parents to care for their young.

🌍 Farmers can breed resilience directly into their herds, ensuring cows are comfortable in the heat while #milkyields are maintained.

💡Further advances in #genomictechnologies like the ABV show how research can drive greater resilience in #agriculture.
🧬 Developed by Melbourne-based scientist Dr Thuy Nguyen, the ABV works by analysing a DNA sample (like a tuft of hair). Any result above 100 shows cows are genetically better at handling heat stress and can be selected for breeding.

🐄 Rising temperatures are tough on dairy cows - #heatstress can slash milk yields by 25-40% as cows eat less and struggle to stay cool.

🔍 The Heat Tolerance Australian Breeding Value (ABV) helps farmers identify cattle with greater ability to tolerate hot, humid conditions.
