With this ban back in effect, doctors will once again be forced to choose between providing care and going to prison. This is cruel to say the least. Abortion is HEALTH CARE, and North Dakotans deserve to be able to access this care without delay caused by confusion about what the law allows.

In 2015, after a 14-year-old died from lack of safe abortion access after she was sexually assaulted, we took the Kenyan government to court—and won. The High Court ruled that survivors have a right to abortion, and paved the way for providers to more confidently offer care.

🚨BREAKING: Abortion is illegal again in North Dakota after the State Supreme Court reversed a decision from a lower court, allowing the state’s cruel and extreme ban to go back into effect.

How long will we allow these backwards laws to tear families apart? How long will politicians stand idly by as these cruel policies snuff out the lives of brilliant, beloved human beings?

The injustice is intolerable. We MUST overturn these archaic bans before more precious lives are lost. No more.

We refuse to allow Tierra Walker's name to be erased. And we cannot to be silent about this unbearable, unnecessary, unrelenting injustice. Tierra Walker deserved so much better. We all do.
NEW: ProPublica has found multiple cases of women with underlying health conditions who died when they couldn’t access abortions.

Tierra Walker, a 37-year-old mother, was told by doctors there was no emergency before preeclampsia killed her.

Extremist lawmakers in South Carolina tried to fast-track a sweeping bill that would have created the most extreme abortion ban in the country.
Our coalition shut them down.

This bill is extremely DANGEROUS, and it could wreak havoc not just in South Carolina, but across the U.S.

"Once we see a bill get enacted, we see that kind of momentum get pushed forward. It really opens the door for other states to do something similar." — @reprorights.org's Nimra Chowdhry

The time to fight back is NOW. Policymakers need to take action and we ALL need to come together to protect access to this safe and essential medicine.
Republicans "are working hard to restrict telehealth abortion through a combination of state and federal action," the editorial board writes. "For abortions to remain as accessible as they have been in the past three years, defenders of reproductive health and freedom will need to fight back."
