Artistic Shots of Retro Computers and Games. Only Real Stuff, No Emulation. Apple, Atari, Commodore, PC-DOS, MSX, Nintendo, Sega... https://youtube.com/c/RetroDream

My little retro computer world... Several weeks of work to design 80 isometric computers from the 1980s and comment on their key specs.
If you'd like to see (and hear about) them, here's the link youtu.be/wQPmPdL5t3Y
Back to basics and great classics!
What's more enjoyable than a coop game of Bubble Bobble with your pal?
No updates. No patches. No microtransactions.
Only fun.
Games that taught us timing, punished mistakes and rewarded skill.

Here's my take:

Now this is the French corner of my studio, where sits the Thomson TO7/70 seen here running L'Aigle D'Or, THE game of 1985 in France.
It takes 15 minutes to load from cassette tape. As a kid back then, I anxiously waited these 15 minutes, knowing that it could crash at any time.

Yes, it can run Doom!! 😀

IBM PS/1 Model 2133/486.

Another corner of my studio. Programming in MSX BASIC on the left, DOS BASIC on the right.
Despite certain differences, these two are very similar and much closer to each other than, for instance, C64, CPC, GFA and other BASIC.

Sweet memories of Locomotive Basic instructions on the Amstrad CPC 6128.

In this video, I revisit my dramatic first encounter with the Atari ST and Dungeon Master back in 1987.
Journey back to a moment when games felt mysterious and revolutionary. A story of nostalgia and timeless game design.

Norton Commander Gold on the CRT of my 1991 PS/2. I was using this file manager from then on until 1995 when I went full Windows.

Now that I had the opportunity to use it, I can confirm the Commodore 1084S is one of the very best CRT ever made.

I remastered my Captain Blood video to include this awesome screen among those I already filmed. For those who missed it here's the video trailer:

Solo Flight is awesome on every computer I tested it. Here on the Apple II, the animation is 1 FPS but it manages to look good, and the engine sound is well rendered if we consider the limited capacities of this machine.

Testing Wing Commander II on my IBM PS/1 486 with Sound Blaster inside.
I wish I could have this kind of setup back in 1992 when the game was released and everyone was speaking about it!

The definitive review of 1988 Captain Blood on authentic vintage computers, ZERO emulator footage, only real CRT display and scanline pixel magic!
Featuring Atari ST, Amiga 500, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC, IBM PS/1...

I recently got a Commodore 1084 display. The first game I needed to test/run on this was, obviously, Defender of the Crown.
I like the love scene, it's so beautiful, though it forces you to change disks no less than three times at the most crucial moment... Thanks Cinemaware!

Running some color display tests on my new IBM PS/1 Model 2133. Good old boy.

Turrican was also very good on the Amstrad CPC. Retro setups, CRT scanlines, genuine hardware, floppy disks, ball mouse and wild joystick: welcome to the Retro Dream experience.

I find the C64C more suited to play R-Type on than the breadbin: fitting futuristic look.

Here's also how it looks next to the Amiga and Atari ST, all running together:

Latest arrival in my studio (thanks Santa): IBM PS/1 model 2133.
It completes my set of IBM 286 and 386 machines with a 486.
I just need to replace the CMOS to let it find the hard drive, and we're good to go for glorious photo shoots with retro software.
And yes, it can run Doom ;)

This one is really hilarious.
Leisure Suit Larry again, this time on my Apple II. This version is the bare minimum: no speed control, no debug mode, no shortcuts... but this glorious monochrome display redeems everything!

For the first post of 2026, let's put together the once antagonist, now reconciled brothers, the 16-bit stars of the 80s, the Atari 520 ST and Amiga 500.

Photo shot in my studio.
Authentic setups, CRT scanlines, ball mouse and wild joystick: that's Retro Dream.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, Folks!
You were 1,500 to join me this past year: thank you for your interest in my retro-photo work!

A rare take, but I’ll stand by it: Loom is even more beautiful in EGA than in VGA.
The limited palette used with dithering effects gives it a softer, more painterly mood. Truly beautiful game and pure storybook magic.

Another part of my studio. I love retro setups, CRT scanlines, genuine hardware, floppy disks, ball mouse and wild joystick.
I made this isometric timeline of micro computers from the 1980s.
If you spot machines I forgot to mention, just tell me! youtu.be/wQPmPdL5t3Y

The Hobbit on my Apple IIe.
The screen quality of these 45 year old CRTs is absolutely amazing.
I felt the need to pay them tribute:

Look at this black beauty.
This is the Toshiba HX-21 "Pasopia" MSX system, Japanese version powered by a Z80 with 64K of RAM.

Its keyboard has a very soft and nice feel. It has another cartridge slot on the rear.
