My wife’s school, Pamlico High in Pamlico County, NC, is honoring Charlie Kirk tomorrow by asking everyone—students, staff, and faculty—to wear red. I mourn the loss of a life and condemn all forms of violence, but all this is going way too far.

No one’s allowed to make up a religion and call it Christianity. If your faith tells you to honor Americans before all others, you’re no Christian, you’re an Americanist.

Let’s not fool ourselves. Politicians have disciples just as Jesus has disciples. One cannot be a disciple of both. A house divided against itself cannot stand.

No pastor should apologize for asking for mercy for the overlooked. That’s quite literally what all the Old Testament prophets did. It’s what Moses did. It’s what Jesus did. Besides, asking for our leaders to be decent to others should be something we all do.
