My unhinged bookish take:

I think up to a certain age, reading a certain amount of books should be mandatory, but NOT in the 'assigned reading' sense. Like, choose your own books via what intrigues you (including audiobooks and GN), but you DO have to get x amount of reading done in a school year

I put my roommate in charge of crushing garlic for the curry. This was the convo:

Her: How many cloves should I add?

Me: The initial recipe calls for 2, so I usually do 4.

Her: ... Do you though.

Me: Well, yeah, though if the cloves seem too small, I do 6.

Her: Should I do 8?

Me: Yeah, do 8.
