I saw a mummy today that looked a little bit like Ossie Ardiles.
This is a first century mummy that looks a bit like Ossie Ardiles. This is the football player Ossie Ardiles, who looks a bit like a first century mummy I saw today.

Haruki Murakami is probably pleased to see people dunking on a different person unlikely to win a Nobel.

I started going to the gym at 6, then walking my dog after. My dog does not like this new routine.

Yep. The doc consulted us (son front and center) and explained that because he is six, the process of an MRI would be more comfortable in terms of stress, so that is what we went for. A CT was offered though. This is the quality of the health care.

Thanks. They couldn’t take my kidney even if they wanted to because I’m a Brit and mad cow disease!

My son hit his head on concrete this morning and was sent home, where he was sick. We took him to the kids doc, which referred us to an MRI. After 45 minutes the MRI showed he was fine. The doctor took the time to explain to my son the contours of his brain etc. The cost of all this: ¥0.

Jeans day arrived. Goodbye shorts.
richardsmart.bsky.social
It’s late September and the shorts are under threat.

The day has arrived. Shorts weather is upon us. See you in November, trousers.

I keep pressing the news from my area button and not getting news from my area. Maybe it’s just a bug?

Im holding out. But I’m also noticing that it’s me in shorts next to a guy in an autumn jacket and jeans now. Grateful to the tourists for promoting my look all year round.

I wonder if the nuggets are made of fairy meat.

I just found out from my son’s comic that the thing on the Karaage-kun pack is a fairy, not a chicken.
A cell on a comic explains “Karaage-kun is of the fairy world and helps people. It is not a chicken.”

Revelations this year:
- As a Brit XL, I should generally be buying XXL clothes in Japan.
- Eye tests here are for far away only, I probably needed reading glasses for a long time.
- My scales were broken and my body fat is way below where the old ones were showing.

Son and wife went in. It was ¥500 each to rent equipment. Caught five fish. No putting back in, so ¥400 each. Once caught, you must have them prepared at the restaurant, for a charge of course.

We used to have an annual pass for here and it was a fairly cheap day out. I’ve seen JP tourists get burned online for complaining after not doing prep etc., but there’s places in Japan now that are as cynical about extracting cash as anywhere else tourist oriented.

Main aim here was the lad wanted to try fishing. Got to that area and was refused entry. You must have a day pass to access the fishing. Another ¥6,000 burned. So we’ve paid ¥13,000 for the lad to have a go at fishing today.

Sheesh. ¥3,000 or more for a bowl of raw fish and rice now… I guess the place decided it was going to start aiming at tourists…

Not sure it counts as inflation, but Hakkejima Sea Paradise has raised its parking fee from ¥1,000 to ¥2,000.
