Am I way out in crazyville with this take?

I'll take people's money all day if it means making this game a reality. I don't really care for the whole "shame on you for not working for free, like me" culture. Toxic.

All or nothing mentality can hurt your progress. You're not a great IndieDev or a terrible IndieDev. You're not either successful or a failure. Sometimes you're in transition and it takes time to build and learn.

Keep at it because I can't wait to see what you make.

Remember to give yourself credit for how far you've come. A year ago I was in a mentorship learning how to do basic functionality like player crouching. Last night I wrote an entire item spawning system complete with randomization, spawning in specific zones, and UI for it all.

Initial work on a tower in my game tonight

I'm adding a new game mechanic. Specific apartments on specific floors request trash pickup each day (randomly generated). If you can get to their level, collect the goodies!

Higher floors pay you for your trouble. Use your earnings to upgrade your gear

Made a script that turns recordings into NPC gibberish. Used as part of the process creating custom NPC characters for my backers. Only 5 spots left to become an NPC in the game.

I'll share the script in the next Devlog so you can make your own gibberish audio for your game! scrapconomy.com

Scrapconomy funded! This is thanks to incredible backers, and one backing amount in particular that completely smashed the funding goal.

I'm building my game with open source tools Blender and Godot. I'll be sharing open information along the way!

Thank you!

My indie game crowdfunding page now has an additional name your own price option!

It'll automatically pick up whatever perks you qualify for.

I'm not tracking to fund the game so far. But that's ok! I'm making the game regardless.

Everything in my Godot scene comes from Blender!
Areas to exclude volumetric fog, NPC, doors, which objects to bake lighting. All Blender!
I'm doing this through custom properties. They arrive in the Godot dictionary.

Some WIP shots of a temple environment I was messing around with tonight. Among the game’s many progression mechanics, I’m toying with the idea of different temples (cults) you can align with. Each one has its own requirements to access the deepest levels. Kind of like Demon Doors in Fable.

Started on the temple environment.

Small change! If my campaign doesn’t fund, backers still get their money back, but I’ll still be delivering digital perks. So you'd still get the game.

I’m just not sure it’ll fund. Honestly, the fact people are willing to support my project at all means everything to me.

Thank you ❤️
Exposure is tough on this platform. Haven’t cracked the code yet, but still excited to be making a game.
Just wanted to boost @rileyb3d.bsky.social and his awesome game Scrapconomy. scrapconomy.com - it looks really cool and reminds me of abiotic factor, which is currently my partner and my own favourite game rn - Riley's a cool ass dude and shares lots of 3D knowledge openly, support ya community~! <3

Even if nobody else plays my game, I love having these two (my kids) test for me!

They're surprisingly thorough at finding ways to break and uncover bugs. I typically sit down with a notepad and just write down all the stuff they find.

Two have already decided to live forever as an NPC. Come join them. 🧟🧟‍♀️

Just like that! First "Immortalized NPC" slot is gone. Someone just became an NPC in my game (pending us reaching the funding goal). Congrats and thanks for supporting #solodev

This is scary. I have a massive life update! I'm crowdfunding my game project. I've held off until I have most major game systems in place already. Go learn about my game and please share! It doesn't like me to send you somewhere else, so please check my profile for 🔗.

Two things I added to the game that I'm happy about 🙃
1- Helmet reflection. Very low cost. I'm mirroring the screen and filtering through a low res mask on the visor to give it this light reflect look.

2- Sound muffling when the helmet is on. Simple but I like!

When you play my game and work your way through the extensive gear upgrade system, just know it took my entire Christmas and New Year's break to figure out the logic and create art.

I'm so proud of it! It’s pretty extensive. Over 100 unique upgrades to discover (so far). #GodotEngine

Ten years ago today I married this girl! Best decision of my life. From failed business attempts to career crises and pivots, she’s been supportive, proud, and my teammate through it all.
