Hey-hey! I’m a Denver-based writer working on my first novel, music nerd (primarily metal & prog), amateur photographer, and I did stand-up for eleven years so expect an occasional joke now and again. Welcome and enjoy your stay.

One of my favorite bands from back home is @fcommanders.bsky.social and they have a fantastic new record out today called BEAR. Sick riffs, dynamic drumming, gorgeous lyrics; all of my favorite things in one killer musical package. You’re gonna wanna check this one out.

Made it in the elevator just before the doors closed, turned around and realized I’d made a horrible mistake.

Not quite the same (maybe though, since some people think using AI for creative projects is somehow okay), but one year I wrote a short story for a fiction course in a caffeinated frenzy over a single weekend before workshops began, and it was voted the best story in class.

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.

wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.
You people couldn't hang with real slackers.

Over the weekend I saw a doom metal band from France, and nothing prepares you for seeing a diminutive French man lean into a mic and say, in a gentle accent, “can I pleese haff less geetar in de monitere?” before playing the heaviest riff you’ve ever heard in your life.

It’s also very heartening to see Neil Peart’s family give their full blessing, and the selection of Anika Nilles on drums for the tour is a fantastic choice. I’m a big fan of her playing and she is going to do Neil justice.

The interesting thing about that supposed Trump dollar coin is that you can’t use a living person’s likeness on US currency by law, so either they are (likely) just flaunting the law anyway or (hopefully) they know something about ol’ Donnie that we don’t.
