I was on track to have such a good savings year last year and then my HVAC died and sapped up most of it haha. Crazy how it goes.

Everything is a luxury. I think comparatively the cost of attending the cons is not too different, but things like regular and obviously suits have shifted the momentum and focus. It was inevitable unless maintaining 5 cons instead of typical vacations remained the norm for years

Due to new policy changes with our hotel partners, we unfortunately can’t host the party floor this year.

I've been mentally preparing for having to pull back and refocus in other areas for years, but it is sad when you dont realize that the times you're having are likely the last and there's no way to selflessly or explicitly communicate that time is important and there isnt always just a next time

Of course there is a very relevant online scene if you put the time in to invest in it. But I do feel that its incredibly easy to fall into obscurity if you at any point stop traveling (to explicitly furry things) at the frequency that everyone else is. Its natural, but adhd fandom brain hits

It feels like its been longer than it has been since I last got to go to a con or visit my friends from the fandom. Really craving the ability to be fuzzy and silly again, but unfortunately it'll be out of the cards for a while. After many years, its just very easy to fall behind once you stop

Its actually so expensive now too 👀 I made one partial and getting all the starter materials together cost me hundreds, lucky I already had a machine.

Even if some people can do it while young, its an overwhelming ask and the complexity of starting from scratch will discourage most from trying

Tldr you cant stop them, but you CAN promote the ethical route so that folks are more likely to customize a cheap mass produced premade for their first suit than steal someone's OC because the next option is a cheap bootleg

Sorry its just too expensive. Like yes that used to be the only option to get involved on a budget, but the fandom is larger than ever and there ARE cheaper alternatives to get involved now (as costs of small makers and fursuit making have skyrocketed).

Like yeah support artists, keep encouraging original creations or even learn to make your own suit (I did).

But you cant gatekeep these low cost options in the guise of funneling that support to artists. Even making your own suit nowadays is a several hundred dollar venture, small artists too

I'm sorry to say but I'd rather have people buy and customize these generic spirit halloween suit options than go to Amazon and have a bootleg copy of mine or anyone else's OC.

Protest the capitalist hellscape all you want but that is the affordable option for entry now, you cant stop it.
