Took a ride on what is most likely my last time on a KiHa 40 Series with JR Hokkaido. Not sure what this livery is, but it's very pretty!

Has the recipie for Seicomart fried chicken changed? It's not as tasty as I remember. (this was my 2nd lot at a 2nd store on this trip)

The Atsuma Power Station view from the frozen Atsuma River. The power generated here supplies most of Hokkaido's entire electricity needs at the moment.

Mildly amused that pretty much every TV Network in Japan can have interviews with multiple former PMs. They have so many after all.

My mid-afternoon Limited Express Okhotsk train has been cancelled, which messed up my plans a bit so I've had to get a mid-morning Rapid Kitami.
I really dislike these hard and fixed seats on the new H100系 trains. Real downgrade for a 4hr ride.

I love travelling Hokkaido by train, but I really don't like how they run 1 Car trains - especially since they have low frequencies (and getting lower) which results in tourists struggling to squeeze onto trains.

Last time I was in Abashiri and took a drift ice boat was 2014!
Back then you could just show up and board, while now you have to book well in advance.

Despite the steam locomotive being out of action, the carriages of the SL Fuyu Shitsugen train are super lovely, and makes for a very pleasant ride through the wetlands north of Kushiro.

Mildly amused that all the busses in Kushiro seems to have giant route numbers stuck to their fronts.

Gosh I *love* old style coffee shops. This one is Lily in Kushiro, and has been around for over 90 years. A beautiful old lady runs the and maintains the place. She claims its nowhere near as busy as it used to be which I guess is typical these days.
