One day these companies will learn…

Deleting incriminating evidence out of the blue is evidence tampering,

but deleting incriminating evidence on a periodic basis (w/o a hold) is a perfectly legal retention policy.
The US ATC system ought to be broken out into a federally-owned private organization (like Fannie Mae, USPS and EuroControl) as to allow it to make sustained investments in infrastructure and staffing that are impossible w/ congressional budgeting.

Never mind their lack of pay during shutdowns
At the core of the discussion is how to best serve students. It’s unarguable that the needs of students vary and that effective support improves outcomes. However, that support today is given to only the outliers.

Reasonable people will disagree whether that’s good.

I’m not sure it’s optimal.
It’s not so much a question of equity, but of resource allocation: should additional resources be provided to enrich “gifted” students or to “pull up” students that are struggling?

Today we still use the system created by Cold War paranoia and the ‘72 Marland Report, despite evidence of issues […]
What has changed is this minority feels empowered to publicly share those ideas in a way that hasn’t been seen since the ‘20s and ‘30s with the Black Hand and the Bund.

Modern developments are deeply troubling but they have to be understood as deeply intertwined with our national political history
I’m not sure we ever had a true consensus — fascistic & ethnonationalist ideas have long played a role in American politics (pre & post-NSDAP). As quickly as anti-Nazi sentiment came to a head, it was overtaken by the anti-left hysteria of the Cold War.

I survived in body alone. my soul didn’t make it out alive.
Friends, I am feeling extremely depressed. I haven’t even been lucky enough to see or embrace what’s left of my memories, my clothes, my bed, and my room in my home, as my city is still under the grip of occupation.
I feel a very, very, very deep depression.

Putin’s legitimacy & domestic support is rooted in his “saving” Russians from the endemic shortages that characterized the post-Soviet nation.

It can’t be understated how much a return to those conditions threatens his rule, as it cuts across demographic divisions & political ideologies.
Russian fuel shortages have been an under-recognized factor in the future conduct of the war in Ukraine.

Putin’s legitimacy has been anchored by a social contract in which Russians have been saved from the shortages that characterized the post-Soviet 90s. A return could be very politically fraught
Russian media now in a panic attempting to mitigate the fall-out from the spiraling fuel crisis, as Russians flood social media with cases of gasoline shortages.
One of the bits I’ve been stuck on is how to deal with the tremendous value that’s been sunk into that likely-uninsurable real estate. A managed retreat is the only sustainable long-term plan, but it’s directly at odds with the massive short term cost of compensating homeowners to get them to move
Irrelevant bonus:

“This is not a both-sides problem,” Vance said. “One side has a much bigger and malignant problem and, that is the truth we must be told.”

Meanwhile in… oh yeah, this year from an elected GOP member:
Nice to know that targeting a billionaire Jewish person and their charity for “control” of politics is fair game, while demanding an end to the starvation and bombing of 1M kids is antisemitism…

The vice president suggested targeting the Ford Foundation and the Open Society Foundations, the nonprofit run by George Soros.

I’d like an explanation of how the final crash of the car was East of the first stop, while both start and end images show the car was traveling westbound…

You'd be surprised how much smoke car fires make!
For reference, here's one that's in open air on the side of an interstate around Atlanta: youtube.com/shorts/k_eMl...

Exactly — Frustratingly common to see 1A protections discussed in situations where neither party is a government entity (or equivalent).

You can say horrible things, and I can also tell you to get the f*** out of my house. Employees can have some types of speech protected, but it’s limited
- Structure appears to be a car park
- The structure around the fire appears to be intact
- Dense black smoke indicative of burning plastics and oil

A car caught fire. Just checked and that happens… goddamn… every 5 minutes in the US on average
