In a few hours, ABC will air Jimmy Kimmel's return to late night. Unfortunately, over 1 million households in Pennsylvania won't be able to tune in.

Sinclair and Nexstar, who own ABC-affiliated stations in three of Pennsylvania's six TV markets, are preempting Kimmel's show tonight.

WHYY had a plan to take over WPSU and keep the lights on, but Penn State's board of trustees balked at subsidizing the transfer, opting instead to shutter the station.

WPSU employees 44 staffers, down from 82 when WHYY initiated talks last spring. Now all will be out of a job.
