The wealthy few try to tell us to blame each other. They tell us it’s the fault of our immigrant neighbors. I confess I am tired of insiders in Raleigh and D.C. who would rather point fingers and cut deals with special interests than do the hard work of governing for all of us.

Right now, working people can’t afford to live. The basic things get more expensive every day, while wages stay rock-bottom and jobs get harder to find.

We know things can be different. In the wealthiest nation on earth, a world where we can all thrive is not beyond reach.

The first time I stepped foot in the North Carolina General Assembly, I had no intention of running for office.

But after facing arrest for peacefully protesting on behalf of working people and our democracy, I knew we needed a moral movement for North Carolina.
