Ich bin ein Berliner; I am a donut. Irish in Germany
Good to see him defend his players but not sure calling attention to it is the best strategy. Also, are IRFU still posting on Formerly Twitter?

That’s 4 out of last 5 HOME games that Wales have conceded more than 50 points. It’s not even remarkable anymore that they ship 50
February 15, 2026 at 4:57 PM
I’ve never been more confident than I am at this moment that Ireland will put 50 on Scotland in a few weeks
February 14, 2026 at 6:30 PM
Hahaha, being a Scotland rugby fan must be the most annoying thing in the world

It would be hyperbolic to apply it to Ireland at the moment but the thing that keeps popping into my head at the moment is Borthwick’s “weren’t good at anything” line about England
February 14, 2026 at 4:54 PM
At their peak it was Ireland’s strength, and one of Prendergast’s big selling points too, to make decisions late at the line. But feels like they are make way to many decisions now at the expense of just being direct and dominating. Give the ball to McClosky as quickly and often as possible

I’m all for forwards having good handling skills but how about, occasionally, our largest humans just mow down some defenders
February 14, 2026 at 2:32 PM
I reckon Ireland are going to be absolutely fine today. The point will be to use it as a starting point for development rather than some kind of vindication
February 14, 2026 at 1:55 PM
Ah, I hear it’s Munster fans fault that there is so much attention on Prendergast’s performances. Nothing to do with his actual performances. Mystery solved

The Nienaber-ruined-my-Ireland stuff is such a nonsense. Farrell was happy to let the tail wag the dog and outsource the gameplan to Lancaster/Leinster. But that was a choice, the buck stops there at the top

The only thing more impressive than these Olympians is my ability to become an expert commenter on their sport after watching it for 10 minutes for the first time in 4 years

For good or for ill (and I am not a big fan) current laws and interpretations really incentivise speed and looking across the opening round I’d say only Italy played with as slow/slower back 3 as Ireland (with Capuozzo, Ireland go to slowest)
February 8, 2026 at 9:39 AM
For all our self flagellation and hand wringing, Ireland only had the third most disastrous opening round really
February 7, 2026 at 6:32 PM
Fair play LCD; don’t think I’ve ever seen a player do two neck rolls simultaneously
February 7, 2026 at 6:20 PM
There’s obviously a dearth of talent in Wales but, Christ, their standards are so low. Finally get a foothold in the England 22 and their captain doesn’t even tap the ball

FORZA

Ireland better get their shit together before Franco Smith gets his hands on this Scotland squad

Sam Prendergast tackles stats are straight to the heart of the periphery (both in attacking and defending him)

It’s mad that Ireland has fallen into this trap several times over professionalism; failing to build depth and make changes from positions of strength rather than it taking a collapse to refresh things. Look at the squad Galthie just picked
Loughman, Milne, and Cian Prendergast all had really solid games despite everything else.

Loughman and Milne, in particular, really showed that "test player" is a nebulous term and, like a good few others, all they needed was an opportunity rather than tackle bags and a dud game against Fiji.

I think one of the most dispiriting things about last night is that France didn’t even really pick a particularly monster pack

Not awful but also never in the contest. Game was long done before Ireland got anything going. Scrum went well, lineout was solid. Attack is awful

Consecutive lineouts in the French half and Ireland’s attacking plan is…up-and-under into the 22

My expectations were not high but this has been bad bad bad
