I stand to be corrected, but I'm expecting to hear something from the UK Govt. along the lines that "the Eurovision Song Contest isn't political, and so the UK will not boycott the 2026 event". Getting up in the morning is political. #EurovisionSongContest #EBU #Waterloo

(Hopefully, this doesn't count as advice). I'd be exceptionally happy if @dreugeniacheng.bsky.social could do something on "randomness". Infinity hurt my head, but I've made a recovery. Randomness is confusing me, and it seems to be everywhere. Anyway...

Festive season quiz. Name the London pub which sports this chandelier. For those of a certain age you can send answers on a postcard to London W1A 1AA. Clue: think "Monopoly", yellow, £280.

Obits. in French are somehow more poignant than in English. When I shuffle off this mortal coil I think I would like a few centimetres in "Le Monde" or, even better, "Libération". Then I would know I had arrived.

Warpaint. "Love is to Die". Apart from being trance-like and psychedelically beautiful this is also the only song I can think of (right now) which has a tautology at its heart. Must be others? #MusicSky #PhilSky

#OBR. Really? This is how we run a country?

SONar FM is now definitivamente my favourite radio station in Chile. I just knew the 2 terms I spent on Spanish O-level would come in handy at some point. Although I needn't have worried too much since it turns out "Supergrass" translates to, well, "Supergrass". @supergrasshq.bsky.social

Was wondering if there is a Nobel Prize for appeasement, and, if so, who might be in line for it.

Reading in "Scientific American" about quark-gluon plasma. Apparently, this matter state, primordial soup, "hasn't been observed in nature since the dawn of time", but has been created by smashing gold atoms together at near light speed in RHIC Brookhaven Labs. How do we know it really existed? 1/2

The UK budget is probably a side show. Given England's xenophobia it's Denmark and Shabana Mahmood that hold the key to Labour's electoral future. Shocking that we've got here, isn't it? #ECHR

Yes. No, look everyone. I'm not the sharpest, but it does seem rather clear that the concept of political appointees to the board of a media organisation which has built a reputation on unbiased journalism is more than a little problematic. Am I missing something? #BBC

I know nothing about football. So, on international night, I'm just going to say the one thing I do know, that fundamental law of the footballing universe: you can't play Gerrard and Lampard in the same midfield. There. That's it. Now I belong. (I should probably have said "Lamps" and "Stevie G.").

Starmer. Leadership. Here we go again with the usual cycle of The Guardian's "is said to"'s. Soon we'll be confronted with the perfunctory Commons tea room "tittle-tattle". Commentators will whip up a self-fulfilling prophecy, there will be a GE, and it will all start again - again. It's insulting.

If the #BBC were to settle out of U.S. court, that would be the end of my licence fee. Personally, I would feel more comfortable if the organisation were to reverse its expansion in the U.S.; I am increasingly irritated by the volume of American news beamed into my living room by "The Context".

Andrew M-W does not change the longstanding, fundamental and substantive reasons why Britain must become a republic. Let's not muddy the waters, and overplay his importance as an individual. #republicUK is about #democracy; plain Andrew needs to face the legal system for his alleged behaviour.

If Andrew Windsor does move in, the good people of Adelaide should, en masse, lobby the UK Govt. for an immediate renaming of the new location for his "house arrest". #republicUK

@chrisj3nnings.bsky.social could you please knock me up an abstract in oils? Theme or symbolism is not so important; it's more a question of square feet.

Labour govt. announces an ambitious new plan for university education: make it ever more expensive, and saddle students with greater debt. Remember Clegg? Well, remember this moment too. It appears the post-Brexit UK economy cannot afford to prioritise the futures of young people.

From "The Guardian": 'Parliamentary rules state that “questions that cast reflections on the sovereign or the Royal Family” more broadly are inadmissible'. That the fundamental instrument of UK democracy cannot scrutinise without fear or favour is both a critical flaw and a disgrace. #republicUK.

Sadly, 10,000 men have now also been made redundant. I hope they will receive appropriate support.

No. Look. Couldn't he just be exiled to St. Helena? Apart from anything else, there's an elegance to the solution if you think about visits to small islands.

It's just about the right time to remind myself, although a reminder is hardly necessary, how much I miss being in #Sydney. If I got my Emirates A380 skates on, I could be in "The Trinity" for a Sunday sharpener.
