If you don’t pay for YouTube, you’ll get some unskippable ads…

Sooooo if a software conference doesn’t pay their speakers, should they be allowed to sell in-talk ad-segments? 😂

I'm once again looking for awesome speakers and topics for upcoming @rotterdamjug.bsky.social meetup(s).

The next one is probably going to be in the week of 27 - 31 October... 👻 🎃

It's just the right amount of poison for humans, makes us awake and alert, is slightly addictive (but not too much), it's perfect.

☕️ Caffeine is inevitable.

Numerous plants across the world evolved producing caffeine independently. To poison bugs, sabotage rivals, and even hack bees’ memories...

The only fear I have is AI taking away junior positions… creating a gap that new developers can’t easily bridge. We’ll only want medior/senior developers that create great code and the bots will write it all.

But how do we make sure there will be senior educated and experienced devs in the future?

I’ve survived:

Dependency injection wars
Frontend framework wars
C++/Java is dying
People are only copying from Stack Overflow-era
Everything must be Scrum-era
(And many more)

We’ll be okay 👌🏼

That’s just the always present existential dread of life 😅

I’ve been a professional dev for over 20 years, and I’ve always seen people (and felt that way myself) talk about how things will derail.

Exactly, sometimes you put one hand in, you put one hand out... you put one hand in, and you shake it all about.

Consequences arrive sooner.
Mediocre developers are exposed.
Good engineers will only get more valuable.

All of these are positives, it'll hopefully drive developers away from trivial "typing of code", towards making well designed maintainable systems.

Roy, it looks like there is a typo in your resume, it says Scumm Master instead of Scrum Master.

...

Nope.

My hope is that developers across the board will now have additional brainpower to spend to hone their analytical and problem solving skills!

Let's keep it optimistic 💪

It won't be about replacing, it's all about giving developers more/powerful tools.

It'll probably mostly benefit developers that have a great sense of overview, problem solving and analytical skills.

.. those developers are already "the best ones" IMHO... so I don't even see a shift happening.

Imagine travelling to one of the poorest countries in the world, 🇲🇼 Malawi, and being welcomed with more kindness and warmth than you'd expect anywhere.

That’s exactly what happened to Rob, a friend of mine.

Wage growth isn't necessarily a sign it's "going well", it's a sign of inflation, meaning what you already own will be worth less and less.
