Yesterday I was transfered from UM Medical Center in Baltimore to Medstar DC. This will make it easier for my kids in DC to visit me as I embark on a very long rehab process. Thank you to everyone for your support and caring.

I moved to Capital Hill in DC 46 years ago when I started my clerkship w Justice White. My kids went to public schools on the Hill and their kids also do. DC has never been safer, but we still lack voting representation in Congress. What we don’t lack is fear-mongering outsiders who dump on DC.

Sad to see that the Trump administration has politicized an important and formerly objective human rights report. Trump appointees cut sections on LGBTQ rights and government corruption and tempered criticism of El Salvador:

Great article by Fiona Harvey, only reporter to attend every climate COP, who participated in my VLS summer class as a media fellow in 2020. I wrote a chapter about this issue in Constitutional Democracy in Crisis? (Oxford Press 2018). www.theguardian.com/environment/...
‘Keeping us hooked on fossil fuels’: how can we negotiate with autocracies on the climate crisis?
The bulk of global greenhouse gas emissions come from countries that are not democratic, and many big oil and gas exporters are also authoritarian

No matter how determined certain politicians are to prop up old fossil fuel technology, the sun is winning dramatically, both in the U.S. and the rest of the world, as Bill McKibben explains. www.newyorker.com/news/annals-...
4.6 Billion Years On, the Sun Is Having a Moment
In the past two years, without much notice, solar power has begun to truly transform the world’s energy system.

On final day of IUCN AEL Colloquium in Lima, Peru, Maryland law grad Emily Hurley presents on waste incineration in China and Baltimore. Recent grad Jenna Schaeffer (on right) presents on EV regulation. Greatly appreciated that they participated in person while studying for the bar exam!

Bravo! This was sorely needed as illustrated by the fact that the existing WNBA teams could not find room for several stars (like Maryland’s Shyanne Sellers).

I am quoted in this article about the Court’s nationwide injunction decision today. The Court should have just taken the case on the merits and voided Trump’s blatantly unconstituional executive order. www.eenews.net/articles/sup...
Supreme Court takes aim at nationwide injunctions
The high court’s conservative majority placed new limits on when lower courts can issue orders that take effect across the country.

My granddaughter Zoey graduating yesterday from fifth grade at Watkins Elementary. Fun fact: she can sing the national anthem of Serbia in Serbian! She and her classmates sang it during a visit to the Serbian embassy. Both my children also are grads of Watkins, a great public school on Capital Hill.

This comports w my experience. A letter asked if I wanted to update the beneficiary on my Social Security records. My late wife was still listed. But I could no longer update it online and no one answered the phone at SS.

3/ 🌐 ⚖️ But the case impacts expands well beyond these two actors. The judges will confirm today whether big polluters can be held accountable for climate harm & made liable to pay their fair share of the adaptation costs of impacted communities across the world. #ClimateJustice
