I'm about to enter my yearly winter layoff from work, and won't have any income for about 3-4 months, so this is my once-yearly link to my Ko-Fi account.

I won't paywall or restrict anything I draw, this is just for anyone who wants to help out with a dollar or two. :)

Daily Pokemon art practice #810: Grookey

Welcome to Gen 8! And to start things off, here's my choice of starter for my run through Shield.

Daily Pokemon art practice #809: Melmetal

And that's a wrap on Gen 7! Tomorrow, we move on to Sword and Shield!

I really enjoyed drawing Meltan and Melmetal, the shading on the liquid part is really fun and satisfying.

I thought I had absolutely nailed the proportion and shape of the head until the end. Sometimes, shading *uncovers* a sin.

Another mythical that I sadly never got a chance to use. I really like this design, so hopefully I'm able to at some point.

Once again I take a colorful, playful Pokemon and give it a haunting, horror-movie vibe through my stubborn refusal to stand up and cross the room for my colored pencils. >.>

Probably the longest time I've spent doing one of these drawings in a while. SO MANY blocks to stack and try to keep in good proportion with each other.

If I don't mention the part I forgot to draw, YOU can't notice it's missing and call me out on it.

Checkmate.

One of those names that's just a fun joy to say out loud. Try it.

Daily Pokemon art practice #801: Magearna

I frequently forget that Magearna is a Gen 7 legendary, the entire aesthetic here feels more like it would have come out of 6. Still a great one, though.

Oops all shading

This one was an interesting change of pace, I essentially had to reverse my usual sketching routine for it. Start with very faint lines for the shapes, shade heavily, and then erase back along the original lines to re-establish the shapes.

Accidentally went a bit too tall on this one instead of going wide, but still really happy with how it turned out.

"How many lines, detail pieces, and patterns do we want to add to this Pokemon?"
"Yes."

There are SO MANY spots on this Pokemon I'm not fully satisfied with, but it's such a complex design. Shading helps as usual, but wow.

I think this is the Ultra Beast that really sells the "alien species" idea the best.

The word armadillo is borrowed from Spanish and simply means “little armored one.” But an even better word for an armadillo, in my opinion, is the Nahuatl ayotochtli. It means “turtle rabbit.”

If you work in journalism: you cannot use machine learning to upscale a photo and still be telling the truth. It WILL lie, even if you don't intend to tell one.

It can only do what it does by inventing details where none exist, which means it will inherently be misrepresenting reality.
Unfriendly reminder, AI is being used to destroy trust. Do not normalize the use of AI. AI can not reliably enhance videos or low-quality images.

This is the quiet replacement of reality. Do not let this be normalized.

Yesterday's ultra-bug was super muscular, today's is super-thin. Both had proportions that were a little awkward to accurately capture and turned out better than I had braced myself for.

This one felt SO DIFFERENT to draw because of how heavy the shadows were, but I really love how it turned out. I was really nervous that it would end up looking terrible.

Ah, the Ultra Beasts. Some day I hope we get a Legends game (or main series) where we get to fully explore Ultra Space and these weird things.

Daily Pokemon art practice #792: Lunala

Lunala definitely made up for the annoyance of the reversed day/night cycle in Moon (I never really adjusted to it), because it looks and feels like a far more natural and intentional continuation of the Cosmog line.

Daily Pokemon art practice #791: Solgaleo

Once again I had to sacrifice a tail to draw the rest of the Pokemon on the page.

It also occurred to me while drawing that Solgaleo's paws are basically an excellent sneaker design and now I want a pair.
